I recently picked up a set of altecs with the black 416-8a woofer and 807 horn driver with the 801 network. These seem to be a7 components from an early 70’s A7 style. I’m unsure because the cabinet has a date in pencil of 03-30-1963 and is an oak veneer. Possibly early aftermarket cab? I would appreciate any thoughts on what these are. Thanks

My best guess is that is a custom build or retailer's product by someone who knew what he was doing. It combines a PA treble with a bass reflex woofer in a Santiago style--domestic, infinite baffle--cabinet. A Frankenspeaker of sorts which would have constricted bass and a durable hf driver with somewhat attenuated vhf to balance it out. It probably would have worked pretty well in a small room in the days when sources were vinyl records and FM radio. For a person whose sensibilities were listening to music and not fretting about specs at the frequency extremes it would have provided many hours of enjoyment.
