JBL L110A comparing to JBL L100, L26, L19A

I have JBL L110A and like them so much, but noticed that the above mentioned L100, L26, L19A speakers have a slightly more high tones when reproducing music. Do these speakers sound bright, and the L110A sounds neutral as I read in some threads and that is the reason?

PS:
Everything is OK with the drivers and crossovers in L110A, they measured well and they are in mint condition.

I think you are right. I had a pair of the two-way L26 around mid 70's. What i got from these speakers was mostly bass and treble (less mid), both somewhat exagerated, the west coast sound of the time.

The little cone tweeter on L26 wasn't a master of detail/finesse, highs sounded a little peaky. The three-way L110A having a mid and a dome tweeter, which probably goes higher in the spectrum than the cone tweeter did, plus having increased sound dispersion in the room, had to be a better balanced speaker than the L26. I have the L110 (not "a") and they are very nice sounding speakers as are the L19. I was going to buy a pair of L26 from a guy and he happened to have a pair of L77 hooked up. A-B ing them, I preferred the L77 because I thought the L26 sounded too bright.

I've never heard the L100 but i do have the 4311B which are a very close cousin, they are not very good sounding speakers in my oppinion.

The L-26 has a HF adjustment pot. I had L77's and thought they were dull & lifeless..

Just avoid the L-36 ... poor xover (IMHO)

My L77's were professionally re-foamed, they sound really good with my Dynaco ST70, not so good with my Marantz 1200

Are there any external markings on the cabinets to differentiate an L110A from the L110? I have a pair, of what I thought were L110s, but I just removed the sub to get the xover (I want to replace the caps) and to my surprise I saw n110A written in red on an inductor. Does this means it's an L110A?

I think the difference is the L110 has LE10 woofer with alnico magnet and the L110A has the LE10H woofer.

I'm just going by memory, I know for certain my L110's have alnico magnets on the woofers but I can't recall the exact model number.

Mine have LE111H woofers.
According to the JBL design specifications memo posted here (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?4552-L110) on this site, that is the correct woofer for the L110A.

Please let me know what cloth color JBL used on L110A grilles?. Asking this because I have darker brownish cloth and don't know are these genuine or not.

Yes, thanks for the info. By the way I just found in the L110A manual. The available grilles are: brown, blue or transparent black. :applaud:
