Just wondering if any Lansing members have tried the white surrounds being sold on bay?
Sure would be nice to have a update of the old lansaloy.

Usually these half-roll surrounds' inner rim need to be glued behind the cone. Not so here. Are the speakers depicted above JBL drivers at all?

Best regards!

surrounds glued to front of cones.

So many people on facebook, are not so knowledgeable,

About things audio.

Something like talking to random teenagers.

FYI: I believe what the elders here are implying, in an indirect fashion, is that in most cases Lansaloy surrounds were attached to the front of the cones, originally and intentionally.

Hello BMWCCA

That's not entirely correct, you need to look at the catalog or archive pictures. You cannot trust posted re-foam/re-edge pictures.

The most common with Lansaloy on the front would be the LE-14A that also had the C roll inverted.

Le-8's Le-10's/2121's 135A's Le-15's all were on the back of the cone. The ones pictured in the thread are not done correctly, they should be on the back.

Point taken. I suppose it's easiest to do it the way they were done first! ;)

Here's a few pics of a driver that had surround put on front side than reinstalled from the correct back of cone.
Not pretty and it probably weaked the edge of the cone.

Oh great like to see how Fs measures would be great if they perform the way the old Lasplas performed.

Sorry Robb - as I no longer have the box to test the fs with

I"m sure that the foams allow more excursion than the original Lansaloy material.

I have been told by the vendor that they will turn yellow when under prolonged fluorescence lighting exposure.

Did you ever see the originals as new? My first exposure to the original lans-a-loy surrounds was back in the mid ‘70s when I picked up a set of early ’60s LE15As... by then they were stiff and well yellowed.

I have this JBL blow-apart display showing an original LE-8 unit.

Possibly the only salvageable recone kit with an original (not cracked) Lansaloy surround :eek:874378743887439874378743887439

Its literally "string"

The "string" is woven over basic grill cloth so there are two layres of covering

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :confused::confused::confused:87441874418744187441

Do you have a donor grille that you can experiment on?

I'd forgotten that driver is underhung. Anybody know if the LE8T-2/2115 is also?

Well, if water is a problem, you could try cleaning it with naphtha or acetone. Naphtha would be my first choice.

John, any chance you could turn them inside out? Also, I recently saw a program where a furniture restoration guy was carefully staining antique furniture caning to hide damaged and repaired areas. I believe he was using oil based stains.
