6290 power amp cooling fan modification

I hope someone of you might be able to share knowledge regarding 6290 power amp cooling fan modification, anyone tried this?

I remember doing something like that about four years ago. From what I remember instead of the fan running all the time, it only comes on as needed. I thought I put a toggle switch in series with the low speed stage?
