View Full Version : Forum issue? (seems ... slow)

Just me, or has the responsiveness of the forum degraded significantly the last few days?
Happy that it's still here at all, but has been atypically dog-slow recently... at least via my home environment
(where other access has been fine).

I haven’t noticed it today, but on several occasions lately loading threads with many photos seems to take quite awhile.

With so many people in lockdown there will be greater usage of interweb , it's like a traffic jam.

Fair enough, but that doesn't explain why -only- the site is slow, unless the hosting facility is bandwidth swamped.
Thought there might be something our wonderful hosts might need to be aware of,
given this isn't their day job and might have bigger concerns at the moment.
Again, not complaining... just concerned and providing a "heads-up". :)

Agree with Grumpy. Took me 30 minutes to load this thread and post a reply. Reminds me of the dial-up days! :-)

“Dial-up” tell us youngsters about those dark days.:D
This morning I experienced slow response, but right now it is back to normal.

No joke. Took 8 minutes to get a complete response editor screen.
Must be a special moderator QoS feature ;)
Just the entry/home page took over a minute. One level down, over 2m.
Tried clearing cache, different browsers, different platforms, unplugging then plugging it back in, ...
Has the feeling of partial DoS or over-allocation throttling (or yes, dial-up).

That's how people communicated just prior to those stone tablets Moses used to carry around. Click "return" then go take a shower while the page loaded. Click an action then listen to a cd while that page loaded. ;)
Working fine today, however my "new posts" page was wiped clean. Only threads posted to in the last few hours listed. Last night the emojis didn't seem to work either.
The site has been loading normally for me in recent days, but today it is veeery slow.

The site has been slowing down here for the last week or so, and is in slow motion today. Anybody else?

It has been painfully slow for a few days. I didn’t want to pester our web hosts, but I’ll reach out to them to see if they can reboot a server or something.

I didn't want to be "that guy"—again—but it's been real slow for about a week or more. Still works, so there's that.
Thanks to those who just keep it working.
It looks like it is getting slower by the day :(
Is there a problem with the database?
From France, asking for new posts in a thread took a whopping 40 seconds: 10 seconds for the redirection to the correct URL with post count, then 25 seconds to get the first chunk of the final page, and an additional 5 seconds to fully load it.

Horrific S L O W site any more! Time to reIndex things or ...?
Not sure who's hosting it or where, or whether the log files have just smothered it,
but it certainly acts like its on a forgotten leg of the internet somewhere ...

Thank you to those working on the issue.

Our web hosts are diligently working behind the scenes updating the server and software. They are dealing with patches and more to keep this legacy forum software functioning.
Things should be better next week.

Well, lightning fast today! Thanks for the refresh. :)
Thanks, glad to see this, Rusty! Yesterday was Upgrade Day. We were moved to a new machine and operating system, with upgraded webserver, separate upgraded php server, vbulletin upgraded as far as it will go and still handle photos, and even the database server software has a major upgrade. Hoping the speed improvement is here to stay! :rockon1:
