I bought the last year one pair of D16R2405 dias. Unfortunately I did not examine with great care diaphragms since at that time I did not have 2405 bodies (they are very difficult to be found in Eastern Europe). Finally when I tried to assembly everything, now when I have bodies, I was negatively surprised what I saw. One diaphragm was good, but second could not fit. I did not want to force anything when I saw that flat wires which go from voice coil have very strange curvature and bending. I will not mention cosmetic things which are obvious on that diaphragm. Did someone encounter this? Because of this unusual curvature there is 0,2-0,3mm gap between diaphragm and body and if you gently press you see that there is some kind of impact on aluminium on diaphragm. Deviation of flat wires can be seen on both sides of diaphragm. Couple of year ago I bought D16R2405 and did not have any problems. Also it seems it is missing mark for polarity, now you can only see some kind signature.

Best regards,
Zeljko

I would suggest you tell your supplier everything you've said here and hope they will recognize that piece as defective merchandise and, even with the lapse of time, offer you a replacement. I would think they would be able to get reimbursement themselves from JBL.

Thanks. I will contact supplier. Hopefully I will have more luck.

I have contacted supplier and received more than generous help. We will see when will JBL have another batch if dias produced. I will receive a free one. I hope that JBL will sort this issues instead putting one more spare product on EOL list.

We are witnessing the fall of the legend. Modern times!
Looks like there is no classy replacement manufacturer. Hard times for DIY community. Many will give up-at least due to the age.

Went through the same thing with a 2405 replacement diaphragm. Very poor quality. The supplier did make good on it though. The voice coil former had runs of glue on it. Made it impossible to insert in the gap. Q.A.? Nope, don't think these folks were working the day that diaphragm was manufactured.

Is the supplier from Mexico the same for spare parts as for new woofers and drivers?

I did read on many recent products: Supplier "Nexus Manufacturing". Is this the same mexican supplier as for the spare-parts?

Small update. I am not surprised to be honest, info from supplier is that JBL informed them that d16r2405 is discontinued and will not be produce anymore.

They are still showing as an orderable part.

I purchased a pair of d8r2425 diaphragms a while ago from speaker exchange as spares, just recently i pulled them out to inspect them and the coil height is different from my original made in usa diaphragms, its been over 12 months and im on a different continent. jbl qc sucks. I think ist time to move on, jbl can't offer the same quality and consistency which its name was built on.
