hey all,

looking for opinions on what JBL center speaker to run with my S4600s for home theatre. Rears tbd later. I was thinking maybe SAM3HA? Array would be nice but bit big and out of my $$$ league

cheers

The best solution is an identical speaker but that is often not an option.
To avoid summation problems you need a speaker with similar crossover points and slopes, resulting in a similar phase behavior.
The 4428 and 4429 come to mind for small speakers (would have to check the slopes though).
I think member bubbleboy76 has a single 4429 for sale...

Yes, I have one 4429 for sale. Very good condition, 3 years old. I bought it new.
It worked excellent as center togheter with my 4365s (that now are sold).
I am selling it for half the current listprice + shipping.
Amazing dynamic sound from this "little" speaker.
The Timberism 4313B quoted was something like "4429 sounds way better than it has any right to do". I can only agree :)

thanks guys, unfortunately I think shipping to Australia would kill the deal. Also its shape (being tall compared to most "center" type speakers) could make placement a bit difficult in conventional set ups. It does share the same HF and UHF drivers as my S4600 though.

It does share the same HF and UHF drivers as my S4600 though.Right, and same horn.

With a more adequate form factor for your need there is the JBL Array 880.
It is intended to be used with the Array series mains.
The crossover points are a bit different, but it probably does not come any closer than this with such tiny speakers.

I have Sam3ha. I put this into my system as a replacement for S4hc that I was using before. I was hoping to make a better match for the 2452s in my mains. I was looking for more punch. It's not really there though. I find the 175nd in this Sam3 to be pretty mellow. Smooth. Installed in the system it's actually hard to hear any difference from the S4 that it replaced. It's actually a few db less sensitive, and had to be turned up. I don't mean to imply criticism though, both speakers are excellent.

again, thanks for the replies.

I have just phoned the closest dealer. It will be min 1 week before they get a price back. Such low volume means the dont keep stock and therefor price each time through the distributor..... Im getting a price on both.

Im sure you guys will be shocked in our retail prices over here!

cheers

suprisingly I received a email today....

SAM3HA Au$3995 = US$2939.70

Array 880 Au$6499 =US$4782.26

How does that compare to the USA prices?

I have to check he got the correct price for the Array 880 center as he wrote "800Array"....

Regarding to what has been said in this tread guess my LSR32 won`t work very well as center with my "M2" because of crosover points? Otherwise similar dispersion behavior.:dont-know:

I would just test it and see if you enjoy the result.
There's conceptually better and sufficiently better.
