View Full Version : JBL S4700 have come ALIVE!!!

G'day All, After an initial hiccup in set up, my new JBL S4700 speakers have come to life! They sound awesome, rich deep bass, incredible mids and pitch perfect highs. I am using a Naim CD5XS player, an NAC-N 172XS preamp and a NAP200 power amp for the HF, and a NAP250 for the LF. It makes them really sing, I really love Naim gear from the UK. The cabling is all Chord Chorus Reference from the UK also, and it has burned in nicely as well. I tossed up tube amps, however after discussion with Richard Krehmeyer from JBL Synthesis I thought I would give the Naim amps a go. They can also drive my other speakers when I like a change. I will eventually get some tube amps though, I use a tube guitar amp and the sound is as smooth as a baby's bum! I am really, REALLY happy now! I just also bought some high quality acoustic insulation to make my own room treatment, and that will keep me going until I can save for some classic monitors, or win lotto and arrange for Kenrick Sound to get me many varieties. Oh and a really classic thing happened the other day, I was looking at e-Bay Australia and a subwoofer came up for sale, turns out the bloke is a JBL nutter from my town and has a wicked collection of 4350's 4435's, Everest and some others, and Mcintosh as well. He has seen my post before and we are arranging to meet and admire. How cool is that, the power of the internet!:)

I am sure that same kind of power was the appeal to HAM radio operators in the day. Sounds like you are settled in on some fine sounding equipment.

Cool, glad you like them. I like mine too, although it took a while to get warmed up to them! audiohack has heard my 4700s, and he was impressed. Or I think he was, haha. :D

Could a S470 user please tell me if the grill inserts (the female parts in the enclosure) are made of plastic or rubber?
Or maybe plastic with a rubber part inside?

I think it is the same used in the M2.
I was hesitating between these and the ones from the 4412 (rubber too, and less expensive, but with a larger external diameter), but I will take those ones

It looks like the S4700 and the M2 share a very similar grill frame.

You're welcome. The prongs on the grills are plastic of course. Similar? Perhaps as they're the same bass driver, but I'm not 100 percent sure.
