View Full Version : "2 inch upgrade and xover points

Hi everyone,

I was wondering - does the bigger "2 inch driver require different crossover than the smaller one?
I want to build Giskard's 4344mk2 xovers but my speakers are upgraded to the "2 driver (and 2123).

AFAIK JBL used the same crossover for both "1 and "2 but is it optimal?

Is this the filter you refer to (http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?27199-DIY-quot-4345-quot-Project), 2123, 2445, 2405.
2445 is 2 "
I have tried both filters, 4344Mk II and 4355 (equivalent)
4355 is more dynamic and what I like best.

(I have used 2450)

I'm referring to stock 4344mk2 design as I believe the 4344 by Giskard was meant for the 2122H?
I tried to look the PDF up but the download link is dead :dont-know:

My concern was. if there was any kind of correction needed while using a bigger driver. I have 2441 with Radian 1245-16 diaphragms.

You will most likely have to tweak the filter when changing driver, dia's and/or horn.

Pity that there are no plug and play concepts as I asked people around and no one wanted to build new networks, maybe because there are only scraps of info that you have to put together by yourself.

You would build Giskard's crossover. I do not think you read all the pages in the link I sent you.
Want to build original, here is ts

I guess I missed a part of it, sorry.

From what I've understood in that topic is that I should simply use this schematic http://www.audioheritage.org/vbulletin/attachment.php?attachmentid=46834&stc=1&d=1280446056 am I correct?

I already have a good BSS analog active xover set to 300Hz/24db, BTW.

Choose one of the crossovers, get a measurement microphone and software (e.g. HolmImpulse) and measure the results.

Then you will see if / what needs change.

Most likely you can get away with small changes, like swapping a few capacitors and / or resistors.

That's the main reason, I can find someone to build the networks but they all needed completed schematics with no tweaking necessary.

That route limits your choices to building an exact replica.

...or: Have the crossovers built without soldering the resistors and cap's in the HF section. Use some kind of screw-terminals for easy swapping. When you have chosen a schematic you can post it here, and I can point to which parts must be changeable.
