Can this now be used as a direct radiator without protective damping plate? I was curious about using my 2441s this way to make them more hi-fi friendly in a smallish living room environment but quickly discovered the short term downfall without engineering protective damping plates for them. I understand the phenolics are considered just about indestructible.

I don't get it.:dont-know: There must be more to come.

Wait a second, I thought the coil diameter was completely different on the 2480 and the 2441. Clamping is clever though. What did you do for location dowels?
Is the phase plug a standard 2441 plug?
Inquiring minds want to know. Give us the dirty detail man.

Unnecessary speculation. Looking forward to a direct response from the original poster.

Its my friend Michaels drivers. A friend of his turned the adapters on a manual lathe.
Michael believes the only difference between a 244x and a 248x is the bolt circle diameter and guide pins. The guide pins have been removed on the 2441. He has to center the diaphragm somehow, but he is clever and I believe he has a plan.

Very clever indeed,,

The only reason for doing this is that 248x drivers are difficult to find here in Sweden.

I have done the reverse - although a few posts have suggested that the gap width is greater on the phenolics to accommodate the more robust former / coil / lead wire attachment??
Someday I should actually go to the shop with some plastic feeler gauges and CHECK..:)
Yeah - the pins do come out with some effort.
