jbl paper smell?

i have a pair of 2226h that emits phenol-like smell from the paper cone.

what substance is it? (I doubt it can be good for me) is it normal and will it ever completely go away?

the speakers were taken out of old theater system, btw. and the smell is, well... sweet vintage.

If they were in use for many year I bet its a smell that they absorb. I doubt its a chemical that was used to make them unless they were in the original boxed that was still sealed.

But I could be wrong, but I doubt it.
