View Full Version : Low Pass Hi Pass common area?

The JBL specs for the 2235H say that you you shouldn't use it above 1khz (paraphrasing here)
The JBL specs for the 2446 say that you you shouldn't use it below 500hz.

Why can't they have a "common area" of sound reproduction? Would they interfere with each other somehow?

Why not have a low pass filter which would start rolling off the 2235 just before 1k and a high pass that would roll it off at just above 500hz. So they would have a common area of 500-1000hz

Is that a big no-no?

It would create a wide peak in the response in the overlapped frequencys.

Next question.
So I'm making a crossover at 600hz.
The woofer is 8 ohm and the horn is 16.

What to do?
What will my tube amp think of that?
Would it be better/best to convert the diaphragm in the horn to an 8 ohm version?

Use the 8 ohm tap and the 16 ohm HF driver will hardly know the difference.

I use 300B SET with 16 ohm LF and 8 ohm HF with no problems.
