old-fashioned

Hi!
Iīve bought an old pair of XPL140.
I checked all titanium drivers. They are quite identical and work fine.
I measured the frequency response curve on- and off-axis.
The area around 800-2000Hz is varying because of cabinet edge diffraction, thatīs obvious.
But I canīt understand why they have got a broad -2dB plateau between 2000-8000Hz...
Because of this the sound is quite dark and undefined. What was the intention of the JBL engineers?
Compared to my original L1000T3 Titanium itīs too muggy.
