I used russian fir plywood since it is a prototype. Total cost for plywood is only 100$. The design is inspired by Martinssons Tham designs (http://www.martinsson.cc/blog/index.php), there is only one angled sheet in my design (not including bracing), and Cerwin Vega B36. The back chamber is square, and because of this the "horn" is parabolic. The box is approx 18 cubic feet. Xmax is reached at 200 Watts. The measurement and simulation says it goes down to 35 Hz, but placed in a corner it should reach 30 Hz.

I have tested it in my brothers barn and it outperforms two 18" pass band boxes (of much smaller size). My friend Ralf is currently using it when his girlfriend is not at home, too much bass she says. It sounds approx as much as this Cerwin double 18" in bass reflex enclosure.

These are the first front loaded bass horns I have ever listened to, so I have nothing equal to compare it to. But compared to ported designs I believe they sound quite different. There is more energy transferred to the building, the barn shaked and squeaked, but less audible sound.

mic stand ... :applaud:
(oh, and nice effort on the horn too!)

Thanks grumpy!

I might add that the upper frequency of 80 Hz is because of the rising group delay. You can see this in the measurement as a phase shift starting at 70 Hz. I also forgot to mention that the horn is inspiered by Asto and PetterPersson at hififorum.nu (http://www.hififorum.nu), Petter desinged a front loaded bass horn which Asto built, http://www.hififorum.nu/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=80156&whichpage=2.

Wow, that is so cool. I can appreciate how much work you put into it, I've been daydreaming about doing something similar for about 15 years.

A brave project. And I love the mic stand :-)

Nice project / woofer indeed.

Very interesting to see the correlation between simulation and measurements.

Thats one hell of a cannon you built there, LOL.

Very nice.

Nice blend of bracing and keeping weight reasonable.

I guy in Canada found my old thread. He asked for drawings. So I made some.
