This weekend, more precisely yesterday, I had the pleasure of receiving in my living room the designer and builder of all my electronics vacuum tubes, David Kon. Together we played to make adjustments in my system using 4way active crossover.

Changed the position of the drivers/horns, placing it between the woofer and the mid.
I changed the cut-off points of 4-way active crossover:
Subwoofer: 20-63 hz (mono)
Woofer: 63-190 hz
Mid: 190-1100 hz
Treble: 1100-20000 hz
Without doubt this is the best sound I could play in my living room today. Fantastic.
See pictures of how it was mounting. The subwoofer appears in the background

Hello!

I think you did a great job in improving your setup! It is wonderful to have a active crossover to play with, also if you one day would like to try another component somewhere.
I love your stack of LP´s and CD´s! I´m still collecting :) Now, I do have some ideas.. Your cables might be the weak point. In respect of that you might like there coloration in the sound, I must say that there build quality are doubt full. Thats only my experience when using standard cables. I´m not saying cables should be expensive! But thicker one´s can bring more openness.
Are you going to build a box for your tweeters as well?

Best regards
Martin

Hello Martin,

Thank you for the comment.

I can assure you that cables are not the weak point. I have thick cables stored, which used much in the past. The voltages and currents involved in the process of audio does not require thick cables. Make sure that.

Does 45 years I buy some LP's and CD's every month. Are the fuel of our system.

Hello again!

I´m glad that you have cables that you like! That´s the most impotent part! Expensive or not, does not tell the story! My own experiments in trying cables are different, and that´s okay, we have different setups :) What genre of music are you collecting?

Best
Martin

Martin,

Copper cables with brass terminals are sufficient for any system show all its potential.

The music genre that I like the most is the one who has beautiful songs, well played and well written.
I don't care style.
Until funeral I hear from that has the features I mentioned.

Right now I will listen to Japanese music.

I was once talking to Phil Marchand (via email) and ask him what kind of cables he used. He said (paraphrasing): "Well, we buy high quality stuff in 100 ft. rolls from our local supplier and cut 'em to length. We use the best quality connectors (gold plated) we can find." I think that about covers it! In my personal experience, it is the "tricked up" cables that create the coloration. Especially in the mid-bass area. They add/modify capacitance, resistance, etc., and, indeed, create a difference some people like . . . but it ain't hi fi!
