Hi all. I'm new to this forum and as novice as it gets. I'm hoping you'll bear with me as I do my best to grasp your insight if you're willing to respond to my lack of knowledge. I've been watching this forum in earnest for a number of years now while accumulating components for the JBL's I want to put together. I have the specs and parameters for the above drivers but not sure of the 2245's and 2441's. How will they mesh with say, an LX5 and an N7000 for the 2405's? I know about not crossing over at cut-off but is vertical dispersion an issue for the 2390's in a 16'x16' room with 8' ceilings? It looks like the 2441's can go low enough and I won't need 70 watts out of them anyway. What I don't want is sound coming out of a tube so to speak. How will the 8ohm 2245's behave coupled to the 2441's? I'm imagining a Heartsfield type set-up only with bigger bottom end. I have a pair of 2205H's and four c-1200/1200H aka Century Gold drivers as well. But I really want to use the 2245's. I have a Behringer DCX2496 crossover. But I just received a Gas500 with a reference rebuild by Mike Bettinger of Gas Audio. This amp is simply beautiful. It would be awesome to use it by itself. Hope you guys can help me out.

Hi gasfan;

Welcome.

For starters, have you looked over the JBL 4345 studio monitor? I would head that direction with the addition of something in between the 2245 and the 2441/2390. http://www.jblpro.com/pub/obsolete/4345.pdf

Are you currently using or have you used the above mentioned room as a music room?

Me think you'll be missing "something between" 100Hz and 800Hz. As 1audiohack suggested, perhaps a 10" midbass driver would be a nice addition. ;)
I personally would use a 12" 2206 if punch is needed.

This is my living room, where everything is happening. Being a lion tamer is the same as being an audiophile. I can tell you I have serious respect for the lion tamers. My wife is convinced I'm a "hoarder". She want's to sign me up for the TV series.(not really). But there's a limit to everything and her tolerance is rapidly diminishing lately. I have six amps stacked up in front of the TV, and then the the one I'm actually using, a couple of subs+speakers, and the HT gear behind. You may yet see me on TV. Getting back on topic, my initial thoughts were to do a 4-way using the C-1200's as mid bass. I can't seem to round up complete T/S for them. Not sure if they're the same as 1200H but I can't find Qes for them either. The Century Gold is crossed over at 650 so they should do very well? I was contemplating doubling them up in 5-7' cube cabs. They're awfully fast.Yes, punch is required but so is extension. Then I figured the .31 Qes of the 2245's will take care of the mid bass issue. The specs on them suggest they should but I guess reality is not the same thing. They seem to have a lot of positive feed back. I just ran across some discussion regarding the 2440's vs. the 2441's and think I may not use the 2405's after all. My 55 year old ears probably don't need them. "Warm and fuzzy" is probably all they can handle anyway, hence the 2390's. Lee, did you mean the 2206's for mid bass? If so, enter the C-1200's. No? Back to a 3-way. Thoughts, direction?

Yeah. Your 2245 will propably go no further than 150-200Hz where the 2206 would pick-up. How high can the 2206 go? If it reaches 2.5Khz, then it could maybe be crossed over to a 2402 (bullet) until it dies at 15Khz.

I wonder if a 10" e110 driver with an aluminum dome could be used from 100 to 7Khz and crossed over to a 2404/2405...

BTW It is not easy building a 3-way system using a 2245.

Well now I'm completely lost. That puts me back to square one! What about the 2441's and the 2390's? I have to use them. They're beautiful, sounding as well. I looked up the 2206's and they look like good candidates. You're not going to get high resolution from a 10" driver at 7Khz. I don't want it quite that fuzzy. Sounds like you're getting at using the 2245's as subs. The 2206's would go well with the 2441's/2390's and the 2405's. I think that might be a plan. You're good! Thank you.

Look at the specs for the JBL 4 way - say ... the 4345 system ... its a proven design and its well know that this combo of drivers plays well together.

Low crossover is at 290Hz - the 2245 plays well below that range, and a 10 inch mid-Bass can fill in from 290 up to 1300Hz just fine
Mid Crossover is at 1.3kHz - the Le85 can play well staying this high, from 1300-10,000 - or sub the 2441/2390 combo into this bandwidth.
High Crossover is at 10kH - the 2405 Slot driver can put a hint of sizzle on top - bring some air to the music.

I'm on it! But with the 2206's. I think I'm gonna like those dynamics. Truly appreciate your input(and understanding), guys.
