Yes Sir,
I`ve seen this before, but i`m still afraid to do this
on high price speakers.
Isn`t it better to try on cheap ones ??
Bo, what is your answer ??

Hey, Eckhard...
I cannot know about cheaper speakers, I've only worked on JBL and Altec baskets. ;)
If you're careful and patient, no one will lose an eye, and things should go fine. I'm more inclined to recone, if you have the option, to ensure everything is new quality. However, a resurround will certainly do, and give years of improved efficacy.
GordonW does this work frequently, I believe, so maybe he'll pitch-up here, soon...

It seems to me it might be worth at least trying the surrounds first - if they come out OK, you've just saved a bunch, and if not, you're no worse off than before, except the expense of the surrounds, which in my opinion would be worth chalking up to the learning experience...

Yes,
The old surround is gone, y(o)ust taking my fingers to do this.
It feels wet at my fingers. i have some pieces at the flygrid
on the backside now, have to put them away with a needle now.
What new surrounds do you prefer (?) ?

Yes, i have a sine wave generator(?) and will fix it
at 30 Hz, but 5 Volts ?
What is about cooling the coil and what is about cone excursion?

I recently did my "first" set of surrounds on Altec 411s, and I was determined not to fail.
I didn't trust my self at all to line things up by hand like a pro, so I built a support jig
to hold the cone in alignment "before" I removed the old surrounds. Its just some beam
clamps, L brackets, and 2 side carpet tape, as in the picture.White paper is over excess
carpet tape. It worked perfectly.
The pro's can laugh at me for the over-kill, but I'm happy..........
