Looking for a design for use with an GPA 416-C in the Onken enclosure.
I've searched here, & the Altec forum & not been able to come up with a definitive design.
I have two options for the mids & top end.
Option 1: Timber tractrix horn with Klipsch K55 / JBL 2404H tweeter
Option 2: Timber tractrix horn with GPA 399 / JBL 2404H tweeter
I see Hiraga recommends 600Hz for the crossover to the mid driver.....2nd order.
Is it just a matter of using something like the "passive crossover calculator" & coming up with a standard design. Of course, I understand that this way will work, but will it give me a good result. This crossover design seems to be something of a black art, with some preffering mild slopes, others steep, etc
Not having any great technical expertise in these matters, but I see some people have used simple 1st order networks, others 2nd order & so on. Is it a matter of personal taste? I read things like "do I need a Zobel network on the woofer?" & "do I need to build in EQ for the horn?" & then I get really confused.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks,
John
