One of my 2231a started to rattel and make a strange noice.
The noice came direkt from behind the dust cap.
I cut the cap of .......see what i found:blink:
A massring in a 2231a .......the cone is markt 2231a with a white text.
What can i expect from a 2231 with massring ?? What is the differens between the 2231 / 2235 cone ??

mass ring with a 2231 cone seems correct to me :dont-know:

2231 vs 2235 ==> make a search on this site but different stiffness of the spiders and improvements in the surround linearity and Xmax

Hallo
Ok......:crying:
Thougt that massring was one of the difference between 2231 and the 2235.
So if the ring is as it should be , i`m :).

I am also with Lasse. As far as I remember, a 2231 with a mas ring automatically becomes a 2235. I suggest that the previous owner of the woofer pictured above did just that. He added a mass ring to a 2231 cone. Perhaps he had a deal on a 2231 recone kit and simply swapped the ring from his old 2235. When drivers and cars go beyong a certain age and have collected many owners, strange things can happen to originality ;)

I reconed a 2231 out of one of my 4333's, it had a mass ring in it.. It was definately original.

a 2231 with a mas ring automatically becomes a 2235. because of the different stiffness of the spider and linearity behavior of the surround ...

The correct would be "a 2234 with a mas ring automatically becomes a 2235"

but a 2231 has always had a mass ring glued on the VC. Please take a look on the old pix of the cutaway of the L300 shown below, zoom on the 136a VC ;) As you can see the mass ring was already in place!

Here's a handy chart Giskard made 8 years ago .

2231 and 2235 both have the mass ring, the 2234 does not.
2235 re-cone kit for the 2231 comes with the option of leaving the mass ring out to make it a 2234.
If your mass ring is rattling then carefully re-glue it onto the former. I'd use a superglue myself-minimal mass and minimal chance of a cock-up.

I am ashamed. I had a brain fade this morning. It is true that the 2231 had a ring and not the 2234. I got confused between number...

Facepalm on me :(

So anyway, as everyone else has drifted slightly off topis, I will answer your original question. A 2231 with a mass ring will be a ........................2231.

and what about aquaplased dia instead of added mass ring :D

Thank you all :)
The ring is now superglued and the rattle is gone.

I really need to check the T/S on one of my 2235H's. Bought off eba ears ago, it had a dented/torn dust cap, but wat otherwise OK. The original cap and the entire cone had been dusted with black aquaplas, looks like factory work to me. The odd thing is the mass ring is also installed...
