There is a pile ( 9 ) Crown CT210 up for grabs in the UK. Seller is asking what seems very low money for the bundle. Are these up to snuff. The poop sheet says 270 watts in bridge mode full range 8 ohms. One of these would make a 2226H run pretty well I suspect.
Anyone have any input on these ?

Thanks in advance Mac

Looks like they've been trying to move them for some time now:

I always figured the Com-Tech series were designed for DJ work, and such. But then I've never used them so . . . :dont-know:

That's like fifty-bucks each! Chump change.

This should be you: :drive:

Chump change indeed. Trouble is these are in Oxford which is near that London ie. nowhere near me. Therefore getting them here could be a headache but more to the point I would not have a chance to check them out. I take it that these wil have the usual serviceability that one would expect from Crown. Jeez even if a couple of them are duds , oh well.
Anyway I still would welcome any comments from anyone with experience of these.

Cheers

730-mile round-trip. Ouch!

macaroonie
07-12-2011, 04:27 PM
730 miles sounds about right, in my volvo which gets about 32 mpg ( UK ) that is 22.5 gallons. Now here is the funny bit , gas is now sold in litres and there are approx 102 litres in that trip usage. Now we are currently paying £1.35 a litre so the fuel cost alone will be

£137 quid

or in your money $ 217

$24 per amp in gas.

...er, petrol.

270W for a 2226 is kind of a hard diet :D

OK down to business , are these things the real deal. US made ? Or are they a rinky dink offering for the install market. They seem plenty weighty given that they do not have 70V output transformers in them.
I have a pal who will be in that area next week so any feedback would be welcome.

TIA Mac

As far as I know the CT series were made in the US, they are discontinued by now and if I'm not mistaken they are replaced by a cheaper CTi series made in China.

Those amps are made for the installation market so weight was not an issue, they have toroidal transformers and can drive 70V lines directly due to their high voltage output.
However, because of this they won't handle a 2 ohms load and they are not as powerful as other models with a 4 ohms load.

That's my take on them.

Whoa the whole cluster! I'd say that is bargain at £300.00. Why doesn’t he just sell them signally for £33.00 then he can post each one to you're front door! :D

You’d have more than enough for Dolby TrueHD 7.1:D Go for it Mac drive down get out the house for few hours.

Mac I guess I need to go to Spec:blink:Savers LOL its for spare parts sigh I thought it was for whole brand new amp that’s been discontinued? Sorry my mistake for not going to Spec:blink:Savers. :D

You going for the whole stack, or are you giving it some thought? £300.00 is damn good deal. Think of all the KW you wouldn’t use in small room unless you want to go totally stone deaf! Just think of the extra miles of headroom on the amps!

Don’t let these Crown amps of thousand star systems slip though your fingers.:D

Since I will not be able to make a physical assesment of these amps would I be correct in assuming that if the protection relays click in after switch on then all is well ?

From listening to the relays on my Alesis RA300 I would say so if I didn’t hear them click off after a few seconds of switching them on I’d be checking to see what’s up.

I can see you’re being diligent as the price is low for x9 and could be they are shot away or maybe in good Nick and the guy just doesn’t want them for some reason?

Offer the guy £450.00 and see if he’ll post them at reasonable courier delivery for all x9. I had to get chap to post my laserdisc player when it was for (pick up only) and he managed to post it off for £12.00 where most where changing a cheeky price of £30.00 or more.

If I had £300.00 I’d buy them before you can but I’m not interested so go for it Mac best deal you might see this year.

Buy it before the guy changes his mind and puts the price up or then again he might drop the price £250.00? :D

I concurr. If they enter "ready state" usually you can assume all is well.
I've seen exceptions but that's what they were.... exceptions ;)

When purchasing a power amp remotely, asking for the protection relay to kick-in is about all I can expect as a test.

Comms were sorted out Rich. I picked them up today and relay clicked in on all 9. Two of them had really noisy fans, opened them up when I got home and fans were fully of dust. Cleaned them and no noise.

Shall test them tomorrow, believe they will all work.

The first thing I do when purchasing used amps is to open the lid and vacuum them, using a brush to move the dust.

So they worked out fine for S/H £300.00 I guess you can’t grumble about.:D

Probably need to redo my scotch picture - but - I was tired of the Teddy scowling Avatar and didn't have many other images available from work.

Didn't mean to trouble you so, Mac
So I swapped it for you ...

Very quickly - its a musa blue banana plant - inna big pot
Got it small mail-order last summer - put it in a bigger put May 201,
and it grows like mad when it hot - hoping to take it inside in late Sept ...
Not sure if I'll ever get bananas to eat off it (short season here near DC) -
but its sure started a lot of conversations about it.
This picture is from July 30th - its grown taller in the last week!

Well they got here at last. All in all in 8/10 cosmetic as you would expect for ex install units. Surface scratches on the casing and rack rash on the lugs. I let John have first pick from the 9 as I am not concerned about cosmetics and can attend to any operational issues without to much difficulty.
Here is a nice pic
