Hi,

As I understand, horn-loaded JBL 4560 (equipped with 2225H woofers, 2445J high drivers)
were for theaters or concerts. I've never listened to them, though.

Can I still use them for home use, or are they not fit for home use?
How about comparison with 4343 in terms of bass, mid, and hi drivers/sound reproduction?
As a jazz lover, I'm inclined towards 4560 because of its horn-loaded system.

Thanks for your kind advice and tips as always.

They are fun to listen to, though not considered hi-fi. The dynamics are great, as is the impact of drums and brass. I use mine to listen to outdoors and really enjoy them. They are the one pair of SR speakers I've said I'll never part with.
Indeed, today they are headed to a ski resort to provide movie sound for my big inflatable movie screen at a tubing park. I'm bringing them because they are great for a ling throw speaker. No problems hearing them 1000 feet away.
Response starts dropping swiftly under 200hz, so some either EQ them or add subs.
Give a pair a listen!

p.s. they are usually found using the smaller 2425 family of HF drivers, not the larger 2445, but the larger driver may well be an improvement.

Thanks. So, they're not intended for home use, right?

Nope, but technically neither are those things in your avatar ;)

Come on! 4343's are excellent for home use. If set up properly.:)

I'd use 4550 for home use for their detailed bass, but not 4560.
With perhaps two subs for reaching those very low frequencies the 4550 cannot reach.

Of course not!
They sounded great last night outdoors with a movie soundtrack, though. Supported by two SRX718's.

most of the stuff on the forum was not intended for home use but try telling any of the guys here and you will meet with some resistance. With the 4560's it just depends how big your home is. If you can get away with putting these in you living space you either have a very acccepting partner or you are single.

Allan.

I use mine outdoors with a good sub. The 4560 is medium throw horn good for 200' or so, the 4550 is long through horn as the other member said good for 1000'. They do not have very good low bass response, but the mid range is something to hear. Also they are big boxes and take up a lot of floor space. But IF you have the room for them and a good sub, well maybe this is just the ticket for you.;)

Thanks so much for your kind feedbacks and counsel, guys. :applaud:
Actually I was led to buy horn-loaded 4560 in nice condition on ebay the other day, but after hard thinking and taking your advice into account, I decided to withdraw, and stick to my 4343. At this point, I just want to stick to 4343 in bi-amp mode for jazz listening, rather than adventuring into this mystic but tempting 4560 unknown to me with all the likely woes and troubles in setting up the whole system.

Oh, I see them. Probably worth around that kind of money, given the conponents and cab, but someone would have to want them. If they were in my neck of the woods I'd probably offer $500 and figure out a fun place to park them.

Now that will sound offensive on the ears :( I take you, keep levels at reasonable level? Tinnitus is no joy once you get it due to exposure to high SPL db particularly the HF horns!

Back in the day they were hottest thing out there for the size.
But time have changed and so have speaker cabinets. The SR4732 was a far better sounding speaker, but it is gone now also.
I got my 4560s out of a dumpster!

Hi Fans, I have a pair of 4550's. Stock black carpeted. Grey paint LF mouth. Grey fiber HF horn. Standard drivers. Tho, with recent research I find they had 2 LF versions and 3 HF versions of drivers. When initially purchased, I tried them with a 40 watt SS amp. (that is all I had, and had been in storage for some years since, as room was an issue). I will move to a house in some months and plan to have these in my living room. Yes, I'm single. I currently reside in an apartment with Beauhorns (lowther dx4). I use wavelength 300b's and wavelength 45's. My choice.Question: Any experience here or opinions, suggestions, with bi-amping? Using a Marchand or Heathkit XO-1 (?).

:) You're planning on going from Lowthers to dual 15" (each cab) long throw horns
...in a house?

IIRC, those bass cabs came with several 2220, 2205, E-145, 2225, or empty...
then later:

4676-1 system? (2xE145-16, 2441, 2450 horn, 3152A [500Hz] crossover?) Inquiring minds... ;)
