Sorta kinda a non JBL question , do any of you SR heroes have experience of these type of things ?

I know very little about them other than the intention is to create a multi unit line , However for example could a single unit be usefully employed in a simple 2 way SR package.
Seems to me there are good space saving aspects to this if it works.
The items shown are P audio and hence not expensive.
Cheers for now , as ever any info is gratefully received.

Thanks Peter , thats a nice concise article. I did have most of that info roughly filed away in the back of my head.
I guess the thrust of my question is this , could one usefully substitute one of these units in a small 2 way for example a 2206 with a 2426 on a guide. As it is the compression driver has a substantial head start in efficiency and the networks adjust for this in conventional systems. Is the 'waveguide' a step backwards in efficiency or what.
It seems as if the dispersion characteristics of a single unit will be 120 wide or more by 30 vertical. With the wings shown above this becomes 90 horizontal ,eminently useable.
Where is the catch if any ?

The reason I am curious is this , I am currently building some small cabinets 600 400 375 to take 2206 and HF. The difficulty comes in selecting a horn throat , it is not easy to find one that gives a good low response ( 800-1000 ) that will fit inside that package. Most are 450 wide or thereabouts (2370 ) and result in a bulky box.
Actually P audio hve come up with a new throat that may fit the bill for 1" drivers but it has yet to appear in the UK ---- P Audio PH2735

I'm sure you understand that if the waveguide will work in that situation then fitting is much less difficult.
I do understand that it will work more or less as a point source.

What about PH-320

I had seen PH 3220 before , it looks suspiciously similar to that generic Celestion horn that is reputedly very beamy , the PH 2735 appeared on the P Audio Thailand site just before the new year.
From the look of it they are trying something ' new '. The mouth size is about as large as I can accommodate hence the benefits of lower cut off ( Hopefully ).
I see the Lautsprechershop carries the elusive Selenium D220ti as favoured by Zilch and millions of e wave users. Have you had business with them Peter ?

I would still welcome an opinion on the use of a single unit waveguide , or is it a complete no no ?

Mac , I would love to chat some with you about your questions / just not right now I'm knackered for time since I'm in the middle of a long running event ( till early March ) .

With my travel times & 12 hr days I can't even collect my thoughts long enough to post a proper & fitting eulogy to Zilch over at AK .

If I get the gist of your project correct / you want to build a small box line array based on a 12" woofer . Is that correct ?

If so, I feel you'll need to source (2) , 6" high diffraction slots with no more than 10 degree vertical disperssion .

Hey I'm just kind of thinking aloud but in this forum. Sometimes good ideas are staring us in the face , oftentimes not but deserve consideration.

In simple terms my question is this , could one usefully substitute a waveguide for a tyical throat in a simple two way system.
Sure there may be eq considerations and efficiency also but in priniple is it do-able ? The payoff is clearly an easier time with cab dimensions , port placement blah blah.

Is it only obtainable though special JBL retailers?

No sir eeeeeeeeeeeee bob. PE do not ship INTL. Ashley that little waveguide is only available as a spare part direct from Harman or alternatively there is a Pyle version that you might get mail order.
However we are not talking about that kind of waveguide. We are talking about these

WHAT!

It's not long ago that i ordered from PE to Norway.

About your LA waveguides. Have you read the AES paper about using them in a staggered array? That means turning them about 30 degree counter clockwise instead of putting them all in line.
