Trading McIntosh C38 pre-amp for C40

I'm switching my system to digital sources via high-end DAC (probably Weiss DAC2). The distance between my preamp and the DAC is 40ft and that cannot be changed, thence the need for an XLR balanced connection. My C38 does not have balanced sources, so I'm thinking about upgrading to a C40 that does.
Any views on the C38 versus C40 as far as audio performance?
