Is IMAX still using JBL components?

Hi all!
We are having the grand opening of our first Regal Cinema Imax theatre here in Anchorage, and am wondering if anyone knows if they still install JBL components?

The site is bone dry for any real audio technical specifications.

LOL I guess you hath to since you’re there (and I’m over here) I can’t see though walls. I’m just as curious as well about it.

I have sixth sense though that says 10 to 1 they’re not using JBL.

I can’t recall the name of the other competitor I’ll do some fishing and see what comes up.

This IMAX video demonstration was impressive though it didn’t surprise me, at. I tried a similar thing a few years ago with single candle though I can’t play it as loud as this the cones are moving a heck of lot. If I did that, I’d have the neighbours knocking on the door. :D

Also I doubt the frequency is cantered on 23Hz more like 20, 22, 24, 25, 26, 27, and so on till airflow doesn’t flow from the port.

You could use a sine wave tone and suddenly shift the level up till it blows the candles out. Also note the distance. It would take several seconds for the airflow to travel across the room (even if one naturally blew from 10 feet away) it would take several seconds for with wind or air-blow to reach a candle, where it would only wobble the flame.

I’m not sure which IMAX film that is? Discovery its not any of the other IMAX films I have on DVD. Must be the IMAX “Space Station”?

I might re-try this with “Die Hard 4” as that had some silly low end extending down to 20Hz and below.
Most of the IMAX DVD with shuttles launches only manage the 25Hz to 30Hz range. It could well be a new IMAX film.


This video has been posted before on the site and if, I had any suspicion I’d say it would be these speakers, (maybe). Also this was installed in Canada.

I doubt JBL is still being used. Since Sonics Associates ( the sound guys behind the IMAX system ) are no longer in business, there has been a number of different companies that have been supplying systems for new IMAX builds.

Technical specifications on each and every model would be nice to read (as I found squat sod all on the Sonics for years of searching around). I guess they have secret contract maybe it, was "Area-51" :beamup:alien encounter technology being used?:dont-know:

I’ve come across the MediaMerge site link a few months back it was boring no real information unless hiding in some tucked away corner on the screen.
