Re-cone LE5-6

Got a quote of $145 to do the job. I have a pair of LE5-10 which, as far as I can tell from the wonderful LE5 matrix, are the same unit.

Any reason to spend that kind of money to repair the -6?

I'd try the LE5-10. Maybe first just replace the single LE5-6 with the -10 to see if there's any significant difference when comparing it with the other original, then mate it up with the second one.

I was confused. My winning bid for the LE5-10 was for 1 unit. So all I can do is swap for the bug eaten -6. Hopefully the other -6 is OK.

I'd be pretty surprised if they sound different. Same dustcap, same cone kit, same flux density, same magnet material... not much way they could sound much different, if any!

Donald, if you run into trouble, it's POSSIBLE that I may be able to "transplant" a cone into your bug-eaten LE5-6. I've managed to carefully excise a bad cone on an LE5-6 before, and put in a cone from another one, leaving the voice coil and spider intact. I managed to save one of the cones from my dead LE5-2s, complete with surround... it's in good shape, and should be a good "donor"...

Sure, I'll give it a try... if you want, send it on over here. I'm not making any guarantees until I see it in person... but if we're lucky, it should be amenable to the transplant...
