I had not heard of fraziers until a couple of weeks ago. The model 7 grille is much like the L100. Made this sample for someone who furnished a picture and the outside dimensions of the grille. The actual grille is twice as tall as this sample.

He told me the Frazier Model 7was designed by someone who had been with JBL.

Frazier was originally called "Frazier May". Ed May left Frazier to join JBL as chief designer, after Bill Burton started Transducers Inc., a side venture of JBL. Bart Locanthi was still at JPL in Pasadena, but worked as a part time consultant for JBL.

THank you for this information. Which came first...the Frazier model 7 or the L100?

Not sure. Ed had nothing to do with the Frazier 7's AFAIK, and the L100's were done after Ed worked at JBL for several years. Ed did the LE8's, the LE15's, and the LE10's before he worked on the 4310's and L100's. The speaker he used for the 4310 and L100 bottom end was basically the D123 with the white coating. The D123 was designed by Bill Burton. Ed modified it for use in the 4310 and L100.

I have heard the Model 7 and the Model 5 circa the late 70's.

Model 7- big sound, efficient, detailed, bit of an ear grinder after a while, and oh yes, very nice cabinet work. Sounds familiar, huh? The model 5 was a better package, less punch but still efficient and much smoother overall. I remember the Roman numeric symbol was used and with the mark "D" version so it ended up being a Model VD. Marketing prowess at work. Still, it was appropriate for the times.

Does anyone offer that grill material in order for me to add them to my Frazier 7's? If so I would be interested.
