View Full Version : What diaphragm is this (on 2445J)?

Does anybody recognize this diaphragm? I have a pair of 2445J:s with these inside.
They are bronzy yellowish and have mesh protection.
DCR = 7.6 Ohms on both (What impedance does this indicate?).
There's also what looks like a black, round dot in the centre of the dome.

I don't have one available to look at, but from memory it looks like a TAD diaphragm. The TD-4002 diaphragm has a screen on it like your picture.

Ah, OK - would these TAD diaphragms actually fit and work well in the 2445?

Here's another close-up of the ones I've got

...and here's a (reasonably poor) picture of a TAD diaphragm that I found on the web, and they actually do look very much alike:

Does anybody know where I could find more info on these diaphragms - is there such a thing as a "TAD Forum"...he he?

Cheers

If it follows what I've seen as the "JBL convention" for marking
compression driver diaphragms, the -red- dot between screws on one
terminal would indicate both the positive terminal, and a 16 ohm nominal
impedance (green being 8 ohms).

The Spanish manufacturer DAS Audio, who also has big 2" drivers similar to JBLs 2445 etc. has used these grid protected 4" diaphragms.
Seraching for images on the net for "DAS audio membranas", one can see a few.
Besides, the JBL 2445 drivers are different: the top plate is designed with a profile which allows to center the diaphragm.

Judging from what I can see of your drivers back cap and the side of your driver I think what you have is DAS K8 driver. DAS is a real company that makes some good equipment.
