Hearing "Elizabeth Reed" transported me back to an evening in 1971 where I was returning
to NAS North Island in the MGB and got to our ships parking, heard this and couldn't shut
off the car, just sat there transfixed by the FM radio :)

"Midnight Rider" was a great bonus too. Very nice on vinyl.

Been enjoying this a couple of more times and when I was last on our library's website,
noticed that they had the remastered CD. Put a hold on it and picked up yesterday.

Funny, didn't hear it sound any better than the vinyl. :crying: . Must have been recorded well
and not really in need of remastering. :dont-know:

been buying some Segovia, Montoya, Holst & Cat Stevens,,,,but the main thing playing this week was a BOOK.

Here, There and Everywhere: My Life Recording the Music of the Beatles

http://www.amazon.com/Here-There-Everywhere-Recording-Beatles/dp/1592402690/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1259204419&sr=8-1

really a fascinating book by the recording engineer who recorded REVOLVER, SPLHCB , LIB and ABBEY RD.

He was there and offers insider info on the FabFour...starting as an 15 y.o. at EMI and working his way up the chain ....he got so fed up that he quit the Beatles in the middle of the White Album...but really a down to earth guy..Geoff Emmerick ...he also designed the Apple recording studio (they mention the speakers as Altec in passing)

library has it and its a great read ....didnt know that Alan Parsons was an asst engineer b4 heading out on his own....recommended :applaud:

Geoff Emerick, Beatles Chief Recording Engineer, Dies at 72
Other than George Martin, he was the behind-the-scenes brains that helped shape the band's sound — particularly, the weird ones.

Have seen the film a couple of times. weird, but good.

The Yardbirds really rock out to "The Train kept a Comin" and the audience sits motionless. No noise,
no headbanging ,,,etc.

Band fights with a amp problem and smashes a guitar and tosses it to the crowd, who then wake up
and fight over it. The hero (?) of the film ends up with it, runs out the door with many chasing him .

He outruns them , makes it to the street alone.
Takes a look at busted guitar and tosses it in the gutter.

Director was making the point that objects only have value within their context.

Very interesting book 2017: "Vintage" by Grégoire Hervier. Nobody was interested in the busted (Jeff Beck's!!)guitar neck lying on the street. Page 150/151:"Der Wert eines Gegenstands, erst recht der eines Sammelobjekts, hängt immer vom Betrachter ab".

:dont-know:

Tom, I recall that I first heard the Allman Brothers Band album way back in 1971 and bought it. It was one of the few if any "live" recordings that I liked. I prefer listening to studio recorded albums because I didn't care for the quality of live recordings at the time or the audience noise. "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" and "Stormy Monday" are my favorites.
I do have the 2 CD set released in 1992 which I haven't listened to for some time.
The only other "live" recordings that I purchased on LP that I can recall were The Woodstock 3 LP set, The Who's "Live At Leeds" and Iron Butterfly's Live album. Iron Butterfly's Live album didn't sound good at all. I might have played it once but after that it sat in its album cover.

You had big luck to find this 45rpm with a sleeve in superb condition. My copy has a mishandled (not by me!!!) one. Mostly these sleeves are destroyed or missing, because the singles were placed in a juke box. My copy was played perhaps some 1000x in a juke box. Hence: only poor dynamics left. Avoid buying, if there is this little typewriter juke box-label left in the sleeve!

I only got that ID from process of elimination. JF's songs were largely anti-war, anti-military (tho he did serve in the Army) , so to see him posing in a Civil War military uniform threw me off (but looking back, he was dressed that way on their first album's cover) ... it just rather throws the confusing message about their music ???

John Fogerty: a tragical restraint of a brilliant artists progression by the Vanz who kant danz.

I agree that the Vanz-Fogerty deal was terrible, but it had 1 good side effect. "Zaentz's film production career, was primarily financed by the profits from Creedence Clearwater Revival"
Zaentz received the Best Picture Oscar for three films One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and Amadeus (1984)—as well as for The English Patient

Zaentz died on January 3, 2014 in San Francisco, California at the age of 92 In 2015 during an interview with Forbes, Fogerty was asked how he felt about his death. He responded:
“ Amazingly, I had very little feeling at all, almost none. And it’s so weird because I had promised myself, you know, 40 years ago, 'Someday I’ll dance a jig on [his] grave.' I literally saw myself like a little leprechaun and holding, in one hand, my half a gold record that we had gotten for 'Suzie Q,' and I was going to throw that down in the hole where the casket was

Fantasy Records owns the distribution and publishing rights to the music of CCR; to extricate himself from his original contract with Fantasy, John Fogerty signed away even more than the original contract had stipulated.[8] Additionally, bad investments by Zaentz and Fantasy, seemingly on the group's behalf, cost CCR millions of dollars,[9] some of which the group recouped through legal proceedings. In the 1980s, Zaentz sued Fogerty claiming plagiarism from Fogerty's own music asking for $140 million in damages but lost (Fantasy, Inc. v. Fogerty);[10]

Fogerty counter-sued for reimbursement of attorneys' fees and in a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, Fogerty v. Fantasy, 510 U.S. 517 (1994), he won. Fogerty composed songs about the experience on his 1985 album Centerfield ("Zanz Kant Danz", "Mr. Greed"), which were thinly veiled slams at Zaentz.[11]

Defamation of character lawsuits followed for the lyric, "Zanz can't dance but he'll steal your money", and also claiming that the fundamental music in "The Old Man Down the Road" was a lift from the Fantasy-copyrighted-but-Fogerty-written song "Run Through the Jungle" from CCR's successful album Cosmo's Factory (1970). The defamation issue was settled, with Warner Bros. and Fogerty changing the title and lyric to "Vanz Kant Danz".[12] Zaentz lost on the copyright issue when a jury found Fogerty not liable.[11]

Fogerty in turn claimed the label misled him about investing and managing his earnings from royalties, resulting in a devastating financial loss. Years later, when Zaentz sold his interest in Fantasy, Fogerty almost immediately re-signed with the label.[13]

No more Krautrock. No more Hammond organ. Changes of musicians and changes of music trends for a rather funky and commercial style aiming at the big US market: it's the same album as "Ooh Baby", but track A1 is different. They replaced "Brother" in favor of "Mainline Florida" for the US listener. Adrian Askew, from England, replaced Jean-Jacques Kravetz at the keyboards and Alex Conti (guitars) from Berlin was added. Ringo Funk (Jeronimo) replaced Carsten Bohn (of Frumpy) at the drums. Germany had the first supergroup after the disbanding of Frumpy. But at the time of the release of this LP, Frank Diez and Curt Cress already had left this supergroup. Listen to the diverse animated longtrack "Living at the end of time" B2. 9 minutes of pure enjoyment. Freude herrscht!

This one is totally underrated and forgotten. Produced by Chris Thomas. At the same time: Pink Floyd had a wish because of the absence of Syd Barrett. Badfinger had a wish because of the absence of the listeners. Anyhow: Beatles' sounds are very present! Listen to "Know one knows" A4.
Although the album received a favourable review in Rolling Stone (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_Stone) magazine and is sometimes considered to be the band's best work, it was withdrawn from record stores in early 1975,[5] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wish_You_Were_Here_(Badfinger_album)#cite_note-SSA50-5) seven weeks after release, because of a lawsuit between Warner music publishing and Badfinger's management. The album's abbreviated manufacturing run and short tenure on the market has made the original LP relatively rare.

Mint? The cover sleeve of "Houses of the holy" seems not to be in mint condition, IMHO. But that doesn't matter at all, because this cover art is a magical icon, an eye catcher "par excellence". Every time i see this LP in a dust bin, my heart stops beating for 10 seconds, until i have to accept, that there is an album of "Peter Alexander" or "The Les Humphries Singers" in the sleeve. Nightmares...

No, it's quite cold here, but it isn't snowing ;). It doesn't snow very often here, so they successfully grow wine in the neighbourhood.

HOTH has been one of my two very first LP's that I've bought as a pupil in 1973. The other one was LZ's »Symbols« :D. I own none of them anymore, as I had to replace them, LZ IV several times due to party wearing out. The one I showed replaces my 1973 item one by one, with it's runout groove markings WEA-50014-A² at side A and R/S Alsdorf 50014 B3 Strawberry at side B. I've bought it as part of a collection in NM condition in the beginning of 2016.
And yes, it's a really great album :applaud::

Bravo! You are able to hear John Bonham getting the crazy beat in the intro of "The Ocean" on your German HOTH reissue? So it's a superb pressing! My LP reissue is the same Alsdorf pressing with a "RME" mark in the deadwax of side 1. Alsdorf pressings are famous for their superb quality. Deutsche Wertarbeit! John Bonham was stressed by Jimmy Page, because this was a very intricate rhythm pattern. He had to stick to a permanent change of a 4/4 to a 7/8 cadence. So let's listen one more time to this crazy rhythmic aide-memoire from the background:
"We've done 4 already
But now it's steady,
and then they went
1-2-3-4"
Oh, John Bonham was the heartbeat of Led Zeppelin and Robert Plant was the emergency hooter...
Try to imitate this cadence by handclapping! A little challenge...

Mine is an SD 7255 , which shows = Led Zeppelin ‎– Houses Of The Holy
Label:Atlantic ‎– SD 7255
Format:Vinyl, LP, Album, Gatefold
Country:Canada
Released:1973

NOT a reissue, NOT expensive, so for a 46 y.o. copy from Canada, this is prolly as mint as they get. The slight cover mar is from stacking, NOT straight from a 2019 press to the customer.

By your logic (?) , a brand new, sealed copy could not be mint if ring wear ?

IF I pickup a Mint album directly from the presses, advertise it as Mint, ship it to a buyer and it sustains a little abrasion in transit, can the buyer claim that what he received was NOT Mint ?

I'll revise my original description for you down to "vinyl surface is VG++"

Frohes Schaffen wünscht Dir Fritz the Cat!

Hi Fritz - and thank you! I appreciate yout hints!

My records never were played wet, and I know the issues resulting from that. I don't own those Yes 1st album copies with that groove jumps any more (I've bought two of them some decades ago). For my The Song Remains The Same copy: The hangs appear with any of my M95's or lower Shure's and with my Ortofon SuperOM 20, but not with my AKG P8ES Super Nova or my ELAC 796 HSp, and they also also don't when I put any other member of my Ortofon stylus assortment into the SuperOM body. Not even with the needle 10, which has the same nominal dimensions as the 20, but a bonded tip instead of the 20's nude one. My solution is a rather pragmatic one: I'm going to sell that needle 20 in another OM body together with one of my TT's (most probably with my Dual CS 5000). For daily use I've inserted the rather cheap needle 10 into the Super OM body, and I only listen to critical music (classic, jazz, female vocals) with my needle 30 (FineLine) or 40 (Fritz Gyger 70).

The pic of your catridge shows a very similar needle?!?

Listen to the slow motion song "I would find you" A3 (in the style of Procol Harum's "Song for a dreamer") and the twin guitars on "Here we are" A5. Definitely not LZ's greatest work. John Paul Jones obviously enjoyed his new toy too much, the Yamaha GX-1 300 pounds monster synthesizer, which doesn't exactly fit to LZ's music. But what else should he do while Jimmy Page was heavily on the needle in those times and he was responsible for the recording sessions almost alone?

But there's a real gem: Listen to Fool In The Rain, which clearly shows why John Bonham can be called the best rock drummer of all times, even when on booze!

A very interesting concept from the master sleeve designers, Hipgnosis. The sleeve "proper" features a man in a bar burning a "Dear John" letter, watched by a bemused barman and a couple of ladies in the bar, whilst the piano player bashes out a tune of some sort. The scenario has been photographed from 6 different viewpoints within the bar and the 6 different sleeve variations have been created (with the letters A-F at the top of the spine denoting each variation).
To diguise the buyers which sleeve variation they were purchasing, an outer brown bag was added - creating a sense of mystery when the sleeve design was revealed.
The (no doubt expensive) concept was further enhanced by the inclusion of an inner sleeve that featured "magic ink". Gently wet the inner sleeve and different colours would appear on the design: the Dollar bill, the cigar in the ashtray and b/w the burnt "Dear John" letter and the broken glass.
The goal for all Zeppelin collectors is to collect pristine copies of all 6 versions, complete with outer brown bags and with uncoloured inner sleeves.
"Dear John" Paul, the keyboard parts you played are too cheesy to accept! Important for this (mishandled by "Dear John") album: the vocals of Robert Plant are the best he ever did with Led Zeppelin (also on Presence LP) - a matured distinctive voice with a range of lower level as usual. That means: less ambulance horn screamings! But these crappy keyboards! Let's burn the letter, "Dear John". You have broken the glass. Actually this album was the swan song (Schwanengesang) of LZ...

Yes, I have only that copy of In Through The Out Door that has been sitting on my more nearly 50 years old WEGA console in the pic. Definitely, the music isn't that interesting that I could have feel being motivated to search for every variant and spend tons of money.

To be honest, this - pristine - copy has been part of a record collection that I've bought by chance about three years ago, together with HOTH with the blurb (and many others...) that I've been showing yet. As LZ definitely had their creative summit behind them, I wasn't too keen to buy it when it was published in 1978.

Listen to All My Love. It's about the tragic death of Robert Plant's young son Carac in 1975, but it appears to be constructed just for maximum WAF. Even a modulation doesn't miss, same as in German schlagers. Unbearable, imho. Even Jimmy Page has stated in more recent years: »This wasn't us.«

A beat that just will not quit...
Listen to guitar solo by Shuggie and the vocals of Johnny Otis in "Don't deceive me": transmitts cool grandeur.
"Back in early 1950ies, there were a handful of musicians, singers , writers and arrangers who mixed swing jazz riffs, blues shouting, gospel harmonies and R&B drumming and came up with a new sound called "rock'n'roll". In Los Angeles, Johnny Otis was THE man.
The Johnny Otis Show, whether live on stage, on records, on radio or television, has meant good-time rockin' R&B music, great musicians, new songs, and a beat that just will not quit." (Cit.: liner notes on back cover)

Fantastic album , fine remaster ...this is the 2013 edition, looking for the 2018 one now. :D

Then Play On was Fleetwood Mac s 1969 debut on Reprise. This expanded and remastered edition features the original U.K running order and track segues, with "One Sunny Day" and "Without You" making their first appearance on a CD issue of the album, as well as new liner notes by veteran rock journalist David Fricke and four bonus tracks, including the revered single "Oh Well Pt. 1," which boasts one of the great guitar riffs in rock history and has been covered by likes of Billy F Gibbons, Jimmy Page, and Tom Petty.

Fleetwood Mac was already a popular blues band in 1969 when they released Then Play On, the group s stellar third studio album. It was the first with guitarist-songwriter Danny Kirwan and ultimately its last with founding member Peter Green. The album s powerful mix of blues and rock includes standout tracks like "Rattlesnake Shake," "Searching For Madge" and "Coming Your Way." Rhino s re-mastered and expanded edition includes four bonus tracks originally released as singles: parts one and two of "Oh Well," "The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown)" and "World In Harmony," which is available on CD for the first time.

J.J. Goldman voc, Tai bass, Khanh guitars, Gardet keyboards, Caussarieu dr. Progrock from France. Weak point from the view of the listener of today: the vocals and the French tinted English pronunciation are questionable. B2 "Out of the night" is 11' 25" of fine European Mellotron progrock. Fancy cover art by Lang.

this is probably why ...

Taï Phong is a bit of an oddity, as it is a French band founded by Vietnamese brothers Kahn and Taï Ho Tong. The sound is comparable to Camel, and Novalis, but the most telling description is 'France's answer to Barclay James Havest.'

I picked up a very nice copy of this yesterday (B version) with correct inner & brown paper wrapper. Had never seen the wrapper before, nor the color spot on the cover ... maybe the 5 or 6 that I've had were the "F's". :dont-know:

In the late 1980s, the record company stopped making five varieties of jackets, and the "F" cover was all that was produced. A bar code was added on the back as well.

did not realize the history of this. (confirms much of what Fritz said)

This was a hard job for the drummer, but he did it well: Terry Bozzio. Listen to B3 "The black page drum solo No1 and No2". This song was originally constructed as a drum solo (cit.:Zappa).

The drum is everything: the cymbals in the intro, then the acoustic guitar by Ron Wood: "One hit to the body" with the guitar solos by Jimmy Page. An album of pure energy. Thanks to the drummer!! Underrated.

https://www.discogs.com/Mort-Stevens-And-His-Orchestra-Original-Hawaii-Five-O-TV-Sound-Track/release/2502644

A soundtrack album featuring Morton Stevens' theme and incidental music from the pilot and the first two seasons was issued by Capitol Records in 1970. Unlike many albums of television music of the time, the music was taken directly from the scoring sessions rather than being specially re-recorded for album release.

picked this up yesterday ... Roy's first and only try at acting , kind of a Western copy of an Elvis movie w/o all the girls.

A musical western, the story is set near the end of the American Civil War, with Orbison portraying a Southern spy with a bullet-shooting guitar given the task of robbing gold bullion from the United States Mint in San Francisco in order to help finance the Confederacy's war effort.

Jack Rose cited Wray as an influence,[19] as did Iggy Pop[20] and Neil Young.[21] Jimmy Page says that Link Wray had a "real rebel attitude" and credits him in It Might Get Loud as a major influence in his early career. According to Rolling Stone, Pete Townshend of The Who once said, "If it hadn't been for Link Wray and 'Rumble,' I never would have picked up a guitar."

Cit. Quentin Tarantino: "A note about the condition of the older recordings i am using on this soundtrack - a lot of these came from my personal vinyl collection instead of having the record companies give me new digitally cleaned up versions of these recordings from the 60's and 70's. I wanted to use the vinyl i've been listening to for years - complete with all the pops and cracks.
I even kept the sound of the needle being put down on the record, basically because i wanted people's experience to be the same as mine when they hear this soundtrack for the first time."

A fundamental figure in Jazz was producer Norman Granz . He was founder of 5 record labels, especially the important Verve and Pablo. He produced many of his Pablo-LPs at the Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland. Impressive: Monty Alexander's version of Ma Rainey's "See see Rider". In 1973 Norman Granz named his new label "Pablo" after his friend Pablo Picasso. Was the icon of the label created by Picasso? Anybody knows? This one is very interesting: https://www.christies.com/features/Picasso-and-the-jazz-impresario-Norman-Granz-9835-3.aspx

A bizarre caleidoscope mixture of classic rock and progressive ideas with subtle charm. Loaded with British humor. Anyone for tennis: "Won't you wear this ring and say you'll be my bride, my playboy blues will then be swept aside, i'll never touch a tennis racket anymore..." or, Amazingly Agnes: "Agnes you're the nicest cow this side of Timbucktoo, why was i born to be a mule, not even a bull, Agnes i feel such a fool,..."
Everything was possible in popular music then...
