On this album we may enjoy listening to the best Westcoast musicians: Lindley, Wachtel, Walsh, Sklar, Browne, Souther, Ronstadt, Frey, Henley, Marotta. Big fun in the recording studio Sound Factory, Los Angeles.
The guitar model Lindley plays is a National Glenwood 95, isn't it? Famous!

The best of Ry Cooder till 1986. Who is the female singer on "Money Honey" from "Into the purple valley"? Gloria Jones? Sounds like Tina Turner, but there's no credits to her on original LP inlay.

A good german pressing. For Beatles aficionados.

Fritz The Cat

Grinded between two producers.
Produced by Todd Rundgren. Afterwards remixed by Chris Thomas. Result? Listen to track B4 "I can love you".
Interesting guitar playing especially on track B5 "Timeless" and on Led Zeppelin-style track B1 "Constitution".
Good US pressing.
Underrated.

Recorded live 1969. Location? Day? Good German pressing for Club Edition.
Listen to track B1 "Liberation" with superb guitar solo by Terry Kath.
Writing error track A2. Wrong: "Purble song". Right: "Purples".

Fritz The Cat

Powell/Wisefield/Upton with John Wetton vocals, bass and keyboards. Wetton was a good choice: listen to track B3, Wetton's "That's that". A swinging fast boogie.
Fine guitar work as usual and superb vocal harmonies "intoxicated" (liner notes!) by Claire Hamill.
Good English pressing.
Underrated. This is a fine LP. What do you think about it?
O.K., track B1, a pop version of "Get ready" is not the yellow of the egg, as we say in German language. But the rest is all good clean fun.
Reviewers can't play guitar! So we should not believe in the reviewers! Hey, critics, this guitar playing is on high level. After 35 years the critics mostly are embarrassing. After 35 years we better believe in the work of the musicians. After 35 years the critics still can't play guitar.....

The title track by David Bowie simply is a great song with a dramatic development. Superb guitar intro hookline by Kevin Armstrong. Listen to the powerful baritone sax. Simply beautiful.
But also the other 21 tracks are very fine. Everything is swinging.
This is the original motion picture soundtrack on 2 LPs arranged by Gil Evans.
Listen to "Killer Blow" by Sade. The accoustic bass and the orchestra arrrangement sounds still great today.
All what Ray Davies wants is a "Quiet Life" on track A4: witty with the birds' twittering.
Gil Evans orchestra: "Va Va Voom", "Boogie Stop Shuffle", "Better git it in your soul", "Cool Napoli", "Absolute Beginners refrain".
Listen also to the 2 other tracks by David Bowie with big orchestra, "Motivation" and "Volare".
Funny, look at Bowie on inner foldcover standing on the typewriter.
All killers no fillers.
This soundtrack is still great after 30 years. It's a magnificent bouquet of flowers......

That is a great song, I first heard the Steppenwolf cover which made me want to hear more of Hoyt Axton's music.

On the JBL "Sessions" LP set , the finale is Hoyt doing "3 Dog Nights" JOY TO THE WORLD. It's an especially nice recording and worth searching out ...

The timbre in his voice (at least on that recording) is great. :D

While reading my favorite german music magazine "Eclipsed": this Boston beer is a little bit too bitter on my tongue. As are the last Led Zep remastered albums.....

On my recent Delta flight to Amsterdam, that beer and Heineken were the best choices. I was disappointed that a flight originating from the West coast wouldn't have a nice IPA selection. I preferred the Heineken to that Boston lager stuff. ...and I found a lot better things to drink in Switzerland and Italy!

He wrote that song! I bet he made a lot of royalties from the smash hit it turned into for Three Dog Night.

I remember hearing it non-stop on the junior high school jukebox in the cafeteria

Slack-key guitar is a fingerstyle genre of guitar music that originated in Hawaii. Its name refers to its characteristic open tunings: the English term is a translation of the Hawaiian kī hōʻalu, which means "loosen the key"

thinking about my daughter who is vacationing with friends in Hawaii this week, so jealous.

I came into a bunch of native Hawaiian titles (not the cheesy stuff for vacationing Haoles) in the HPB clearance bin earlier this year.

Half a century has passed since The Beatles gave their final live concert at Candlestick Park, San Francisco, 29. August 1966.

This LP perfectly shows the non perfect sound of the Beatlesmania in USA. I like the girls' screaming. It was part of the Beatles' live sound. Hey, and that's great: listen to the nearly perfect live guitar playing of George Harrison. What great guitar player he was then!

1976 reissue. Cosmic psychedelic popsounds as Status Quo did in these years of flower power and fancy hairdo. Not yet the hard rockers of "Radar Love". A little sparkling gem. Holland rocks in a different way......

Nice. Killer band. I listened to Moontan this weekend, for the first time in a long time and was blown away.

Thin flexible US-Dynagroove pressing with the usual buckling. Hey, this was the time of lack of oil in US. Not enough material for premium vinyl pressings. Today there is oil enough for everybody in USA. And it's cheap!
This is the issue with the brown label. Anybody knows the difference between the brown and the orange RCA-label? I think, this is not an original of 1970, isn't it?

Yesterday I was in Lüneburg 50 km south of Hamburg by chance. There was a a second hand shop for old media (Lps, Cds ...). The owner told me that the selling of LPs is growing, he is quite satisfied. He even showed an interest in one or more of my spare TT.

http://www.hotel-bargenturm.de/images/header/lueneburg_2.jpg

I looked for an Oscar Peterson LP, but it ended up with a jazz sampler. And I got Udo Jürgens (180 g vinyl), BAP and Peter Maffay - all German artists.

When I came home there was finally a DVD ordered online:

The Everly Brothers Reunion Concert
Live from the Royal Albert Hall London
September 23, 1983

I recognized most of the nineteen tracks. Two or three beats and the memory was back. I wondered where from I knew them all. It was not the music they played regularly in German radio stations. Maybe AFN (American Forces Network from the Frankfurt area) or my brother had simply collected these songs on tape (reel).
The Everly Brothers are singing with great intensity. Wonderful musicians and a very delighted audience join this great concert.

Does this second hand shop still exist today? When i visited Lüneburg in 2013, i could not find any used-vinyl record shop there. But the Erdölmuseum in Wietze and the Deutsches Salzmuseum in Lüneburg were very interesting.

Reggie Young and Steve Goodman superb lead guitar playing.
Listen to track B1 "Onomatopoeia": this is the greek word for forming a word from the sound an associated thing makes. It's that kind of literature, our parents didn't want us children to consume. Onomatopoeia was used especially in comics. Comics were much more interesting for me than Goethe, Schiller et al. Interesting life was more like that: Crash, Boom, Bang, Roooaaargh, Boing etc...............Wasn't it? Isn't it still?
