A good german pressing. For Beatles aficionados.
A sad story about a band career and greedy managers. It ended with suicide by Pete Ham and Tom Evans. Grinded in music business......

Good English pressing.
Underrated. This is a fine LP. What do you think about it?
O.K., track B1, a pop version of "Get ready" is not the yellow of the egg, as we say in German language. But the rest is all good clean fun.
Reviewers can't play guitar! So we should not believe in the reviewers! Hey, critics, this guitar playing is on high level. After 35 years the critics mostly are embarrassing. After 35 years we better believe in the work of the musicians. After 35 years the critics still can't play guitar.....

The title track by David Bowie simply is a great song with a dramatic development. Superb guitar intro hookline by Kevin Armstrong. Listen to the powerful baritone sax. Simply beautiful.
But also the other 21 tracks are very fine. Everything is swinging.
This is the original motion picture soundtrack on 2 LPs arranged by Gil Evans.
Listen to "Killer Blow" by Sade. The accoustic bass and the orchestra arrrangement sounds still great today.
All what Ray Davies wants is a "Quiet Life" on track A4: witty with the birds' twittering.
Gil Evans orchestra: "Va Va Voom", "Boogie Stop Shuffle", "Better git it in your soul", "Cool Napoli", "Absolute Beginners refrain".
Listen also to the 2 other tracks by David Bowie with big orchestra, "Motivation" and "Volare".
Funny, look at Bowie on inner foldcover standing on the typewriter.
All killers no fillers.
This soundtrack is still great after 30 years. It's a magnificent bouquet of flowers......

While reading my favorite german music magazine "Eclipsed": this Boston beer is a little bit too bitter on my tongue. As are the last Led Zep remastered albums.....

On my recent Delta flight to Amsterdam, that beer and Heineken were the best choices. I was disappointed that a flight originating from the West coast wouldn't have a nice IPA selection. I preferred the Heineken to that Boston lager stuff. ...and I found a lot better things to drink in Switzerland and Italy!

Half a century has passed since The Beatles gave their final live concert at Candlestick Park, San Francisco, 29. August 1966.
Underrated historical document.
This LP perfectly shows the non perfect sound of the Beatlesmania in USA. I like the girls' screaming. It was part of the Beatles' live sound. Hey, and that's great: listen to the nearly perfect live guitar playing of George Harrison. What great guitar player he was then!

The Ventures play the classics.
Easy listening. Why not? Once in a month?
Interesting because of Larry Young, bass (Monkees, Canned Heat, John Mayall).
Beautiful cover art on back side without any credits to the painter. Anybody knows the painter?

Thriftstore find this week, placed (and nearly lost) between thousands of german "Schlager"-lps. Because the cover foto shows some kind of young Costa Cordalis (German Schlagersänger) or some Peruvian panpipes musician.
Anyhow, this is sloppy cover art. Not imaginable for the English or German music market in the 70ies.
Obviously, this album was produced in London for the US music market. It's not typical for Mike Heron or Incredible String Band. Therefore the strings played on this one are not as incredible as usual. Anybody owns this one? Did the US music market spoil English folk-rock music?

Thin flexible US-Dynagroove pressing with the usual buckling. Hey, this was the time of lack of oil in US. Not enough material for premium vinyl pressings. Today there is oil enough for everybody in USA. And it's cheap!
This is the issue with the brown label. Anybody knows the difference between the brown and the orange RCA-label? I think, this is not an original of 1970, isn't it?

Once again i have to complain about those critics, who aren't able to listen to the music they're writing about. They don't think about the future of a record. Hey, the song remains the same, but weeeee don't! After nearly 40 years we may listen with changed minds and ears! The critics were wrong.
So listen to track A3, the critically judged "Disco Monk". Underrated. Brisk! Great guitar playing by Larry Coryell.
Monk and disco is a superb and witty mixture..........
P.S. I never was a fan of disco music.

Yesterday I was in Lüneburg 50 km south of Hamburg by chance. There was a a second hand shop for old media (Lps, Cds ...). The owner told me that the selling of LPs is growing, he is quite satisfied. He even showed an interest in one or more of my spare TT.

I looked for an Oscar Peterson LP, but it ended up with a jazz sampler. And I got Udo Jürgens (180 g vinyl), BAP and Peter Maffay - all German artists.

I recognized most of the nineteen tracks. Two or three beats and the memory was back. I wondered where from I knew them all. It was not the music they played regularly in German radio stations. Maybe AFN (American Forces Network from the Frankfurt area) or my brother had simply collected these songs on tape (reel).
The Everly Brothers are singing with great intensity. Wonderful musicians and a very delighted audience join this great concert.

R,I.P. Leon Russell. This is a seriously weird psychedelic outing with Marc Benno. I have the original 1968 issue with the toilet roll on the cover and the 70s reissue also on the Smash label with Russell and Benno on the cover, both are unipak-style gatefold covers. I also have their 1971 follow-up, Asylum Choir II.
