sure, if you go looking for a specific title, it can usually be found (except the one I got last week - see pic) , but for a popular title "Roadrunner" , the pic has not been in general circulation.

Great stuff this one! Very rare. From Australia. Condition sufficient for HIFI-pleasure? Mono LPs in sufficient condition are hard to find here in Europe. Most of them were mistreated badly........
Wonderful music for a bright Ascension Day morning.......
But i have to be satisfied with my 1990 UK Castle issue with some mediocre Mono versions of "All or nothing", "Don't burst my bubble", "Hey girl", "Tell me have you ever seen me", "Tin Soldier", "Every litlle bit hurts" and "Wat'cha gonna do about it".

Sunday morning music. Quo classics as you've never heard them before. My last year's favorite of the new albums. Look at the beautiful acoustic guitars on foldcover. Photographs made by Bryan Adams!
Listen to "Paper plane" on track A4 with the accordeon and the "Deutsche car".
You must love this one because it was made with a wink.

There were several reasons for buying this one:
1.) The Pink Floyd LP collection has to be completed.
2.) The booklet is simply beautiful
3.) The foldcover art is great (dedicated to Storm Thorgerson, 1944-2013): look at the empty boat on back cover painting.....
4.) The 2 LPs were pressed in virgin vinyl of 180gr weight
5.) The wonderful dynamics. Listen loud!
6.) The unforgettable Richard Wright (recorded and produced by Bob Ezrin in 1993) on most of the tracks!!

So it was a "must" for me to get this one.

One question: what shall a vinyl afficionado do with the added download voucher?

Wilko Johnson g/voc and John Potter piano play hot pub-rock. In fact it's not the ideal music for this sunshine-sunday-morning. Listen to track A5 "First thing in the morning" in JJ Cale-style.
Found this one yesterday in my favorite record shop BRO Records in St. Gallen, Switzerland. Remembering Wilko Johnsons fantastic 2014 LP collaboration with Roger Daltrey:"Going back home".
Listen to the great piano playing by John Potter. Both Ex-Dr.Feelgood. How "Speakerlabfan" would write: smokin'!

Produced by Michael Nesmith, who sits in on guitar; Red Rhodes and Byron Berline. down the road from Fairport Convention, Matthews Southern Comfort, and Plainsong, this is nice country rock. with covers of songs by Jackson Browne, Randy Newman, and Nesmith. I like it - this is right in my wheelhouse.

Found this one last week in perfect condition (also the foldcover looks new after more than 40 years) in my favourite record shop BRO Records in St. Gallen. I searched for this one since many years. I had to pay the price that we pay here in Switzerland for 3 Big Macs.
Listen to track A4 Jackson Browne's " These days". There's also a beautiful version of Richard Thompsons "Shady eyes" on track A3. Don't forget to dance to the version of the Randy Newman song " What are you waiting for" on track B3.
Mediocre Kinney dynamics.
Can you explain what "wheelhouse" means? Are you a sailor? I have a little sailing boat on the Bodensee, but there's no wheelhouse with LP's on it........

Yes, to eagles and groundhogs, aka Marmots.

and also a real life monster --> Ursus Horribilis (Grizzly Bear) still roam in the North Cascades - I've seen the more common Black bear in the wild but thankfully have not yet encountered a Grizzly. Thinking about these creatures have resulted in many near sleepless nights while camping in a tent. They were nearly extinct in the continental US but small populations are growing in Washington and Montana.

Yesterday we did see a yearling deer crossing the logging road as we were driving out. At this lake, years ago I saw a Bobcat/Lynx - a rare sighting according to a ranger because they are nocturnal.

A little bit of rock music history. Remember "Sunshine of your love" and "I feel free".
This is a compilation of songs recorded 1968-1970.
Working with Cream, Pete refined a writing talent conceived under the influence of the American beat poets like Ginsberg, Corso and Ferlinghetti, and nurtured in the heady athmosphere of London in the early sixties. Since those early days with Graham Bond, Jack Bruce, Dick Heckstall-Smith and Ginger Baker, Pete has written in the closest of collaborations with musicians (cit: liner notes on back cover).

After 4 1/2 years, the band departed in February of 1974. So, logically (!?), in March they went into the studio and recorded some tunes they always wanted to do....
Listen to track B1 (the old Coasters tune), Leiber & Stoller's "I'm a hog for you baby" and the cool shuffling blues B4, Muddy Waters' song "Long distance calling", which is played only with electric piano, voice and bass.

I really, really enjoy their "Tarkio" . Not a bad cut on the whole album , but picked up "Weeds" and was much less impressed.

Yep, they hit the sweet spot for me too with that record - killer stuff and so much more than their hit song One Toke Over The Line.

OK. Now i understand. Some kind of "monday morning work"? A quick shot? A rush job?

Yes, that's correct and that's what I think about the Dave Mason Scrapbook album art :|

I heard it was a nice Saturday in Switzerland? I received a picture from family, Lake Lucerne in the background - will be here in a couple of months to hit the hiking trails, sample the beer & cheese.

Van Morrison, Georgie Fame, Mose Allison and Ben Sidran celebrate the songs of Mose Allison. What a perfect team......
Great sunny sunday morning tunes, arent' they?
"Perfect Moment" track B7 says: " Mona Lisa smile/one such perfect moment/makes it all worthwhile".
I'm a little bit scared about the fact, that this vinyl is 20 years old already! 20 years of many perfect moments. Don't mind the lesser ones......
P.S.: Don't forget: Mona Lisa smiles since 500 years.

Concerning my last post, i want to introduce two essential books about rock&pop music in Switzerland. Written in german language.
Swiss pop music of the sixties was very much influenced by the english music scene. Funny: the beat bands had splendid names: The Countdowns, Bull Train Skiffle Group, The Black Caps, The Baracudas, The Black Lions, The Red Lions, and so on, all sorts of wild animals.
Worldshaking......

Situation normal? No.
Micky Moody plays all guitars. Bobby Harrison: strong (underrated) voice! Horns by Mel Collins & Co. Funky blues!
Listen to track A5 "Every little bit hurts". Sunday evening blues. SNAFU.
Once again: great slide guitar work by Micky Moody.
English pressing with poor dynamics.

Warner Bros used the Olive Green label in the US until ~1973, then switched over to the "Burbank" labels, so the Palm trees/Burbank label is a later issue. Incredible sound quality on those early Van Morrison records!

That's disappointing to hear because Ben Sidran is interesting, coming from his association with the Steve Miller Band in the 60s. I have a copy of this record, have avoided playing it for a few years because I suspected it was a bit too smooth and synth'd.

Groupies shouldn't write books. "It's only rock'n'roll but i write it....."
For me it was not deemed acceptable to read all 528 pages of this book. Monkey business.
But listen to Pamela's husband! He had something to say. So look at my next post.

The DOORS are an all time fave for me. Saw them live in 1968, tho their show was poor
(Morrison was drunk or stoned).

Robb Kreiger Band played headliner in a huge roster for the Mark in the Morning Holidays concert in Hollyweird this past December. They absolutely, especially Rob, tore it up. I was amazed at the fire in them. Don't know the age of his bandmembers but he's got to be pushing 70! Not that it necessarily matters, but the performance was incendiary.

A simple and cool one. Look at these hands!
Smoothly produced by Keith Richards and Steve Jordan (drums). Waddy Wachtel, guitars. Larry Campbell, pedal steel. Bobby Keys saxophone. Norah Jones, cool duet lead vocals on track D3. The beauty and the......?
Listen to all the Farfisas, to the Wurlitzers and Hammond organs. Where have these fantastic instruments been for all these years?
Very good Czech Republic pressing: big amount of work for the last (4?) vinyl pressing factories of Europe in these times.........
Highly recommended! Impressive. This one goes straight to my heart.

Nice. Looks like great summer weather there! Great time of year.

We drove an hour north today to visit my son at college in Bellingham, near the US/Canada border. Had a nice after-lunch hike down to a salt-water beach cove overlooking the San Juan Islands. The trees with red bark are the Pacific Madrona (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arbutus_menziesii), native to the coast - beautiful trees.

Rudie was "Rudolf Rock und die Schockers", the german "Sha Na Na". Na ja....too much Smokie, Mud, Rubettes and Sailor tunes.
Dicky Tarrach drums (ex Rattles/Randy Pie/Moti Special).
In the 80ies the Vertigo label had become more and more commercial. It had lost it's 70ies magic.
Saturday night music for rock'n'roll fans.

The late 70ies were "difficult" times in rock music and LP cover art. IMHO the rock tunes had become more and more too commercial.
This one with Steve Gadd at the drums (not the american session drummer!) was at the edge from the point of today's view.
The woman on front cover with the drinking straw in her hand seems to wait for better input too.......

Concerning the woman on the cover of my last post: trouble had to come soon. Rock music got deeper and deeper into trouble.
So there was no more money left for acceptable LP cover art: on cover back side there is the same picture as on front cover.......
And the boring synthesizers began to spoil rock music more and more........

Debut album. Rare one. Beautiful cult cover art. Superb guitar driven rock in the style of Boston et al of those years. No lines- no trouble coming?

They had their second chance! Underrated. Beautiful dramatic cover artwork (look at the back side). Many fine songs. Superb guitar work and vocal harmonies in the style of Barclay James Harvest. Listen to track B4 "Guitar hero". Great.

Once again. Every week this summer.
Great. Perfectly bringing back the early seventies (my youth time).
Summertime as we like it.
Hats off to Shrieve, Rolie, Schon, Carabello and Carlos Santana!
