I'm also a fan of Roy Orbison. I agree that Mystery Girl was an excellent final album for him. Great songwriting, his voice was still amazing, and Jeff Lynne (ELO) did a phenomenal job producing the album.

Went out to light the woodstove this AM and started up the living room small system. 18Ti's & PS1000 sub. Found a Roy Orbison minidisk and it's been going about an hour.
It's a GH + Mystery Girl compilation disk. I think MG gets better with each listening. Gotta admit tho, if I have to pick one cut to represent R.O. , it would be "Dream Baby" :D

Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
Sweet dream baby
How long must I dream

Dream baby, got me dreamin sweet dreams
The whole day through
Dream baby, got me dreamin sweet dreams
Night time too

I love you and Im dreaming of you
But that wont do
Dream baby, make me stop my dreamin
You can make my dreams come true

Yep. I get that with LPs that I'm digging up from bands that apparently did not get much airplay on the west coast or I was not listening or looking in the right record stores. Man is another band - a GREAT progressive rock band that I'd never heard of until a few years ago...surprising because I remember digging Gentle Giant, another fairly non-commercial progressive rock band from that era.

, even Mr (sorry) Marx should approve of the 4 disk Peter Green anthology .

disk #1 was so good that I can't progress to #2 ;) . It's the bluesy one with cuts from John Mayall, Fleetwood Mac, Eddie Boyd , Peter B's Looners and Duster Bennett.

sounds like it was recorded yesterday :bouncy: . Found this tidbit on wiki ...

but quickly started playing a Gibson Les Paul (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Paul_%28guitar%29) with The Bluesbreakers and Green's guitar was often referred to as his "magic guitar". In 2000 he told Guitar Player (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar_Player) magazine: "I never had a magic one. Mine wasn't magic...It just barely worked.". In part, his unique tone derived from the neck pickup (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pickup_%28music_technology%29) having been installed with the magnet in reverse during a repair while on tour in America, resulting in an out of phase sound

I mistakenly thought that Peter was dead, but sounds like he's still around , doing his thang.

I'd forgotten that Rick Wakeman plays on this title. I'm with you - I like some of Bowie's work including Space Oddity which I like a lot but it's kind of weird how this one stands out. It's like he was in a groove that he lost when he went into all the glam stuff and the 70's happened...

Neil Young - Zuma

That is one of the best Neil Young recordings. Especially like Cortez the Killer on side 2.

I have a hard time choosing a favorite but this is a great LP and well recorded. I think I read (in the Neil Young biography - Shakey) a quote where he talks about starting with song idea for Cortez The Killer while in high school. quite a song, I wonder if even old Neil knew what he was getting at with those lyrics but that has never seemed to stop him (cough* Ride My Llama *cough) and it's a killer song. http://imageshack.us/a/img259/8618/tiphat.gif

Every time I listen to Cortez the Killer I can't help but think of the song by The Loud Family called "Cortex The Killer". Nice play on words/reference to Neil's classic song and a great song on it's own as well (be sure to listen past the "out there" intro when the song really kicks in). RIP Scott Miller 1960-2013 (leader/songwriter for The Loud Family and Game Theory--two of my favorite bands from the latter part of the 20th century and also from the 21st century). I love how Scott's songs often have that 60's feel to them. Amy Mann said in an interview "Scott Miller is the best songwriter out there, in my opinion. I often think about that when I'm writing: "Would Scott think this song is any good?""

and even better IMO -- Game Theory "Where Are You Going Northern"

I really enjoy Zep, but why is this even eligible for a 2014 Award for Best Rock Album?

How about something from THIS decade?

Its a 2012 record of a 2007 Concert with basically 70s era music.

Wiki sez: Celebration Day is a concert film (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concert_film) by the English rock (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_music) band Led Zeppelin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Led_Zeppelin), recorded at the Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ahmet_Ertegun_Tribute_Concert) on 10 December 2007, in London's O2 Arena (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_O2_Arena_%28London%29). The film was given a limited theatrical run (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited_release) starting on 17 October 2012, and was released on several home audio and video formats on 19 November 2012. The performance, the film, and album releases have been widely praised.

I'm loving all the Beatles LP's that have been posted here over the last week or so--hits very close to home. The fifty year anniversary of their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan show is a real milestone. Lately I've been playing a lot of Beatles here as well. In fact, in honor of this 50th anniversary, they finally released the rest of the U.S. Capitol albums on CD. I've owned the Beatles Capitol Albums Volumes 1 & 2 CD Box Sets for years, and was really disappointed when they never finished the U.S. Capitol set with volume 3. I was ecstatic when they finally released the complete Capital U.S. catalog on CD earlier this month in honor of this 50th anniversary. Since I already own the first two box sets, I just bought the four CD's I was missing. From what I understand, I'm better off with the first two box sets than the 2014 releases of those albums anyways--for various reasons such as the 2014 releases using the 1987 remixes of Help and Rubber Soul. These remixes don't interest me at all--thankfully the Capitol Albums Volumes 1 & 2 that I already own avoided these remixes in favor of the original mix of Help and Rubber Soul. The remastering is superb on all 12 CD's. I'm a huge vinyl aficionado and still have my Beatles LP's, but IMHO they did such a phenomenal job remastering these Capitol albums for CD that I prefer their sound to the vinyl. That is often times not the case when I buy something on CD that I already own on vinyl. But in this case, they used the original master tapes (vinyl is usually pressed from 2nd or even 3rd generation tapes) and used state of the art reel to reel players etc.--these Capitol Beatles albums never sounded better IMHO. I also own the British version of the Beatles albums on CD --bought that box set when it was released a few years ago as well (last two photos). I also think that set outshines the vinyl British version of those LP's for similar reasons. Both sets are highly recommended. BTW, Capital Albums volumes 1 and 2 are going out of print so any Beatles fans who want the U.S. albums on CD -- I recommend you grab that version while you can!

Don't blame the posters - its not the user, its the broken Forum software here.

You can enter a big block of text, all nicely formatted, and save it. Then go back in to edit it again
or fix a typo/mispelling and the broken software strips out all the carriage returns and you get one big blob of text like that.

Its such a pain there are times I just delete a post rather than go back and reformat all over again ...
It may be another reason the member base keeps dropping here ...

yes, I understand that line breaks make it readable ... Duh!

I also believe that the editor should NOT drop the existing line breaks if you re-edit.
But I honestly have no idea if the original poster just typed a huge blob of text
or if the editor removed all his CRs - I tend to assume its was the edit problem and
not the posters fault for not doing any formatting.

I'm in Firefox

me too 27.0.1 , but no matter what the ver. , I've never had formatting problems on LHF when not in advanced mode.

I tend to assume its was the edit problem and
not the posters fault for not doing any formatting.

I tend to ASSUME that a big blob of text is from a passionate user with his/her head down, banging it out and NOT doing a preview before posting.

ALSO ... long ago there was a post about installing IESPELL (works on FF too) . it does real time spell checks, and works on more than just forum posts. I've used it ever since.

Looks like that Beach Boys LP is a 1980 reissue and re-titled "California Girls". The original '65 LP with that cover was "Summer Days (and Summer Nights)". One of my favorites. Nice find, some of the late 70s/early 80s Capitol reissues on the purple label were mastered by Wally Traugott and sound great.

I have been really happy with Rega turntables - I would find a Rega dealer and check out the Rega RP-1. I think it's good to see a dealer to demo or even borrow a loaner to try in your system. And a dealer should have a professional turntable technician who will get the turntable settings dialed in correctly so that you're getting the most magic out of the grooves possible. And when you're ready save a few hundred more to get a great cartridge to go with the table rather than stick with the one that the manufacturer includes with the TT - again, find a local dealer with a good track record and experience, and get his advice on a great cartridge for the table. If you're in the Northwest, talk to John at The Audio Connection. You get good resale / trade-in value with a new TT too, so when you're ready in a year or two you can move up the ladder to where it gets really interesting ...especially combined with the great Moving Coil cartridges and phono stages out there. Good luck!~
