All of side 2 is the Hendrix / Young jam.
Speaking of another Young, Neil Young, I ran interesting discussion on the thrasherswheat site about how he and Hendrix traveled (http://neilyoungnews.thrasherswheat.org/2009/08/jimi-hendrix-and-neil-young-at.html) together to Woodstock...

From a radio interview program "On The Record" by Mary Turner in 1979, Neil was asked about what he remembered of Woodstock:
Young: "One of things I remember about Woodstock was trying to get there to play. As it turns out, the charter plane I was on with Jimi Hendrix flew into the wrong airport. We were supposed to be picked by a helicopter. The roads were jammed and there was nobody at the airport, so we had no way to get to the concert.
So we're standing at the airport with Melvin Belli [an attorney] trying to figure out what to do. And Melvin Belli steals this pickup truck parked at the airport.
So it's the three of us in this stolen pickup truck trying to get to the Woodstock concert to play -- Jimi, Melvin & me.
That's what I really remember about Woodstock.

a $2 pickup at HPB today. The Holland LP has a cover variation with Pete's name in text - most of covers only have the LP title on the cover. Unfortunately an otherwise nice cover is marred by the remains of a label...but the LP is excellent. Someone had dropped off a bunch of Who records, the majority being '80s US reissues on MCA, I did have to take the hook for the import pressings of this and the Italian Odds & Sods Lps.

This is a stretch in the later period Byrds that I'm drawn to. Not the same as the movie soundtrack album, only the title track has relation to the movie. I dig the folk-rock, banjo + hard rock here and on Untitled. An interesting piece on wiki about Dylan's contribution to the tite song:

In early 1969, the script writer and leading actor of Easy Rider, Peter Fonda, asked Bob Dylan to compose a theme song for the film.[13] Dylan declined but as a consolation he offered the lines - "The river flows, it flows to the sea/Wherever that river goes, that's where I want to be/Flow, river, flow" - which he hurriedly scribbled onto a napkin, before telling Fonda to "give that to McGuinn."[8][13] The fragment was dutifully passed on to The Byrds' guitarist, Roger McGuinn, who added his own lyrical and musical contributions to fashion a completed song, which he titled "Ballad of Easy Rider".[

great electric folk. this is a first listen to this record, which I picked up last month. I wish I could teleport back to the time when I saw them in the early 70s, I saw them at the University of Washington when they were opening for some other act (J Geils? Loggins & Messina?). an interesting story on wiki about the 1st cover for this record:

The album was notable for having a textured "gatefold" sleeve and inner pages on its original release. This was paid for by the band but cost more to print than the album generated in profits, meaning the band lost money on each album sold. None of the re-releases have included the original number of pages of liner notes.

fair condition=$75.00 ?

I wouldn't pay that much if S&G hand delivered a sealed-autographed copy directly to my TT ....anywhere else - $1 or less ...
( tho I do like "A Simple Desultory Philippic (Or How I Was Robert McNamara'd Into Submission)"))

Wow that's a pretty spectacular case of delusional pricing. don't complain too much though because the cluelessness cuts both ways, as you probably have noticed while you're wheeling out a $9 pair of L-300's.

The Velvet Underground White Light/White Heat. 1968.

Just to remind us how commercial the market is now, "I Heard Her Call My Name" was released as a single. I miss the audacity of those times. Influence wise, I consider this one of the most important records ever made. It is certainly my favorite VU album to listen to.

Listening to sides 3/4. a $4 HPB pickup from last year. This is a 3LP compilation with 30 tracks (8 previously unreleased), and a 24 page booklet with discussion of songs from Carlos Santana including this one for the 8:49 Soul Sacrifice recorded live at Woodstock:

If you've ever walked around New York at five in the morning and you scream, or clap your hands, you hear how it reverberates off the buildings. Woodstock was like that only everyone was reverberating. You walk up there and it's literally an ocean of hair, teeth, hearts, hands, ears, as far as you can see.

;) The John Stewart who recorded the record in 1970 would be on the north side of 70 if he were alive today. Besides all the other evidence., the Daily Show Jon Stewart is a young whipper-snapper - he was 8 years old in 1970.

a $1 thrift pick-up this week in great shape, and the cover is better than my other copy. It would be nice to run across a Mono US pressing (or Strange Days) but I guess that's not likely to happen anytime soon. This one sounds terrific, and a favorite. from wikipedia:

The US monophonic pressing - though only a fold down of the stereo mix to mono - is one of the rarest pop/rock LPs and has been sought after by collectors for years.

I honestly think, at any given moment, somewhere in the world someone is listening to Elvis Aaron Presley!

I blame my play on the Harman Traveling showroom ...
Among the audio samples they played for us was the Elvis version of Fever from the first CD in this collection -
Not a great revelation over Peggy Lee's version, but it sounded quite nice - so I got a copy afterwards ... ...

I followed that with Dire Strait's On Every Street - 'cause I needed to hear "Calling Elvis" on those modded JBL L200s 3-ways
with the walnut horns. I had them stored while I worked on the Dahlquists - but I pulled them out and set them up for the
Listening party tomorrow -I'd forgotten how sweet they play ... ahhhh
Calling Elvis had come up on my iPhone in Shuffle during my commute the other day
and I wanted to hear it through a nice system ... we let the whole album play!
Not their best, but there is some good stuff on that album, their final one.

Not my favorite Sect Lp, but for $1  :applaud:
Gonna buy a Trans-Atlantic :smthsail: ticket and get to U.S.
just to find some fine $1 garage records :seeya:

I know that I saw another Sect LP on a spin list recently. ...that's what inspired me to spin that one. Nice spin on the Question Mark and The Mysterians. :applaud:Their "96 Tears" single is one that I purchased new on that Cameo label back in the day. unfortunately that was long before we learned to take care of our records, and is scratched to hell without doubt. :(

I'm listening to a first record on my new TT. I picked up a black P5 with external PSU and the upgrade belt from my local dealer today. His last P5 and he had no cherry wood units but what a great deal for $1k. I have a Benz Wood cartridge on order for it and should have it in a week or two, in the meantime we put the Benz Ace from my P3 on it. There is a LOT more resolution with this combo, with especially tight and textured low frequencies. I'm looking forward to redisovering my record collection.

I saw your complaint on some U.S. pressings like The Beach Boys Lp that suprise me. Don't know about that but one time I had chance to compare original 60's U.K version of Captain Beefheart's "Safe As Milk" Lp called "Drop out Boogie" with some U.S. issue, and the U.K. Lp is 15% better:blink:
I have same complaints on some Greek, Italian & ex Yugoslav issues which are criminally pressed.

I started putting together a playlist for a Christmas Eve dinner with family and my siblings' families. This year instead of using digital sources, I'm putting tracks from LPs onto the Akai Reel to Reel deck. It's a much more interesting collection of music for source. I'm mixing rock and pop tracks along with Christmas music - selection is semi-random by going through the unsorted shelved records. "You Got The Silver" from Let It Bleed made it on the tape.
