Today I went to visit a customer and I saw something... two old speakers that looks like Altec cabinets, one of them obviously a 828, the other I don't know.
I pass in front of these boxes everytime I go there but today something hit me... the brand: Ramsa

Ramsa is a Japanese brand of audio and is I think the PRO division of Panasonic.
Anybody aware if they had licence from Altec to produce these cabinets?

I don't know Altec very well and I'm trying to find a relation between the other Ramsa cabinet (on the right), horns, drivers and their Altec counterpart.

So far nothing

This is the onlyRamsa horn that I know about that is round. Mark Egebretson designed this for Ramsa because Ramsa wanted to update their horns. This is designed to be crossed over at 600Hz. It was designed for the olympics games. It is 25" across & 9" deep. It is 100 degrees X 100 degrees. It will sound like the JBL 2344 horn in the JBL 4430 monitor. It takes a lot of eq to straighten it out. But, once you have it eq'd, it's ruller flat. Here is the horn: DDS is doing knock offs of these horns. So, if you want a set, call DDS in Texas. They are perfect knock offs. The metal horns is used for the master mold. They are $1,000.00 per set delivered to your door in the lower 48 states. The horn is set up for the large format drivers such as Altec 288-16k's, TAD 4002's, JBL 2441, 2445,2446,2447,2450, 2451 or 2452. DDS will drill that flange for anything that you want to put on it. No problem. DDS manufactures for JBL, EAW, & other large speaker manufacturers. Give them a call.

I was using a Ramsa mixing console in my mid 1980s dejay days and that was okay. Ramsa sure ain't Klark-Teknik. The two cabinets look very much like knock-offs of proven designs. Either somebody had fitted Ramsa stickers on their Altec cabinets, thinking that Ramsa had more brand equity than Altec, or Ramsa built the cabinets under license.

But now, down to serious business. Tell me more about the (vertical) horn on the right picture. Any more pictures of them? They seem to be fiberglass.

I don't know, it looks like an iteration of a Mantaray horn.. :dont-know:
