speaker repair; speaker fasteners

Two questions I hope someone can help me with:

1. The screwdriver slipped (should have used hex-headed screws!) and I punched a 3/8" long slit in the surround of a newly reconed Urei 801C driver (same woofer as JBL E-145). Is this repairable or should I just bite the bullet and recone the driver a second time?

2. Can anyone direct me to where I might obtain those metal clip assemblies that JBL and Urei often used to mount drivers on the baffle instead of using the holes in the speaker frame?

I can't tell you about the surround although I'd leave it and see what it sounds like before repairing it.

The clips are available on Ebay and at Parts Express. However, the t-nuts in the cabinet will either be set for the frame or for clips and it's not a choice unless you plan to install new t-nuts. Some cabinets with rear mounted speakers don't cut the holes quite large enough for front mounting and you may have to ream them out a bit. Good luck.

ouch. I'd get the surround fixed before playing hard. Perhaps you
could ask your reconer for advise.

Last I tried, JBLpro still sold those clamps, just not black.

Another forum member had suggested usspeaker.com, which I
just verified still sells a similar (and black) clamp for $2.15ea
(P/N G0790).

Thanks very much for your prompt and helpful replies!

My reconer thinks that one of his "amazing glues" will be enough to fix the tear in the surround (it's actually only in the surround, not the cone).

And now I'll head for ussspeaker.com and eBay to source clamps. I'm prepared to make new holes in the front baffle for the clamps. Well see how it works out. Hope for post pics of my clone Urei 801Cs before too long. . .

If your baskets are the same as the E-145, I don't think the standard clips will work. The lip is too tall.

:banghead: Yeap. You'd have to block up on the front of the baffle, under the clamp
on the non-speaker side of the clamp (leveling the clamp).

Doable, but I don't know of anyone selling a clamp to fit that particular frame
without some sort of mod to the baffle. One could also sink the frame into a
thick baffle, but that would likely have to be custom from the start.
