Hi,
Could not get the WAF on the A7's and don't know if my room has the capacity for them.

Listened to an original A8 cabinet at "la maison de l'audiohile", the original horn opening was blocked, horn was 288's with Mantaray horns.

Very nice sound and not at all "boxy", open etc...musical yes and you best be careful upstream because it will tell you all about that!

Decided to get them, fitted with 416-8a's does marvels when driven by parallel 211 monoblocs. Hummm do I need a tweeter?

In the end the A8's didn't get much more WAF! Designed bass reflex to get "that"; same volume/vent as shown in image, currently under construction...the Mantaray will be "boxed" as shown.

Not sure if your drawing is to scale. The A8 cabinet is only 12 1/4 inches deep, very shallow and meant to be used close to wall if not mounted on it. The original horn was a 90 degree bent horn to allow for that shallow a cabinet.

IIRC the manta ray horn is deeper than this cabinet's depth. Still, looks like a nice project.

Bart,

Indeed the a8 is 42"x30x11 7/8" with the 90° horn

My design changed the proportions but kept same volume for the bass reflex.

So now its built, and it sounds good :)
Has 416-8a, 288-16h, Mantaray horn.
Same interior volume as A8, same port, padded with natural wool fibre (25mm), MDF 22mm, braced and reinforced with 4cm x 4cm (wood), glued, screwed....heavy :banghead:

Colour to be decided and based on "WAF", will be dark grey like cast iron, like the radiator that is in the background.
