I have two pair of Altec VOTT A7-500, I am loving VOTT's sound, but I was always curious the JBL woofers 2231A in the 4520 or in a horn cabinet and the legendary JBL2395.
I could not buy original pair of 4520 so have seen around in my storage and I found a pair of cabinets, which were made almost the JBL D31050's cabinet drawing without mid part only the two woofer part.
today was the first time when they gave sounds:)
Now I am waiting for my 2440 and 2441:banghead:, nut I have a pair of Beyma 2" (they are not bad!) and I am trying the xocers, it seems the 3110A could be good for starting, but I am planing to build a xovers only for this speakers, maybe the members will help me:bouncy:

Okay, I'm biased toward horn loaded systems and tubed amplification.

But it looks really nice!

youve posted pictures of your speakers already in another thread, and i was so impressed that i had to show them to a friend of mine = very beautiful cabinets.
i hope they will sound as neat as they look!

if you like to experiemt and play around with different setting, i can strongly recommend the digital active crossover from behringer.
you need at least two (stereo)amps though -but you can change (proverbial) virtually everthing within a few minutes on the crossover.
if you found your setup, you can rebuild it as a passive XO (maybe).
okay, lots of "if's" here, but im just a fan of these digital controllers so i like to recommend.

anyway, all the best for your project.
cheers,
mikey

ps:
whats with the urei-monitors? 'they on ebay?

The 2231A would be better suited for non horn loaded cabinets because of it's low FS and foam surrounds. If you want to try JBL, try the 2226H or
any other accordian surround 15" driver.
