I have once again managed to get hold of some vintage gear.
I have two Horn drivers.

One is a Gaumont Kalee 379 driver (made by B.A.F) Golden coloured with a handle

The other is a Rank 379 driver ( grey peppercoat coloured)

Both drivers look very similar, and i believe they were used on the same dual throat horn.

Are these drivers rare to come across?
and are they field coil/ or compression drivers?
Possibly thinking of putting these on the marketplace.

any info is much appreciated.

Hi SoundWave

- Those drivers are permanent magnet types ( they're not field coil ) . They appear to be a copy of early Altec 288 drivers .

- The last pair ( for sale on eBay ) that I tracked was back in 2004 ( & oddly enough, that sale was also for one of each variety,,, ie; one Rank & one Gaumont Kalee ).

- They sold for 379 pounds ( not a typo ) for the pair ( in a UK auction ) .

- Get them checked out by a trained professional ( for funtionality ) before putting them up for sale .

- Both of your examples seem to be missing the bolts that keep the top-plate ( aligned & ) in-place over top of the large pot-casting . This isn't a good omen / since I don't know why someone would remove those bolts except to access the internal magnet &/or shift the top-plate around the pole-piece.

Ahh thank you Earl K.

I removed the bolts thinking the top could be removed like The lansing unit I had before.

I however did not open it, and have put the bolts all back into place.
The diaphragms appear to be ok too, with a few minor minor dimples.

Fingers crossed ill shift them for a liitle more.
