What speakers would be better, The 4412a or the L5 for listening to loud rock?

Both work fine. I'm thinking the 12" 4412A might have an advantage at really loud volumes but I've yet to reach that point where I could tell an advantage playing both side by side, and I've played them both plenty loud.

Fix me up! I'm listening, Zilch! Does it require plugs?

But tell the truth now; how much time have you spent evaluating or comparing the L5/L7 systems to other JBLs? I'm only asking since many here won't give them the time of day! Maybe they need blue cloth? :montyp:

funny... I initially read "these can be fixed" as in "repaired"...
(or as in parts that are not yet "NLA"), in case the loudness
got to crossover-burning :duck: (or driver damaging) levels.

then again, ... some folks would put arms back on Venus de Milo :D

Being Zilch, I figured "fixed" meant upgraded in some fashion to help them gain Zilch Seal of Approval. I'd like to hear what he thinks it takes to improve them. Most here are smarter on that stuff than I am, and in the end my ears will be the judge. I also inferred he thought the L5 weren't "fixable".

Being Zilch I was immediately afraid he meant putting the "arms back on Venus de Milo."

Maybe he did mean which speakers were still able to be serviced. I hope so. ;)

Or possibly a modded system to be derived upon!

Note: Cone kit not available. Defective driver should be replaced.

Replacement drivers not available, either.... :applaud:

I like the L-5s to my ears.

Replacement drivers not available, either.... :applaud:Yeah, I worried about that when I first thought about trying out the L-5/7 series, and it bothered me when the going rate for L7s was around $800. Doesn't really bother me now when they're $200. I should probably lay in an extra system, wrapped in climate-controlled storage, just for spare parts, but then the surrounds seem relatively immune to foam aging and the worst flaws I've seen are separated surrounds which seem to be easily fixed with adhesives. Anyone ever seen a deteriorated surround on an L1/3/5/7?

Zilch, thanks for the thoughts. So I'll assume "fixing" refers to repairs and maintenance, not upgrades, which will probably become a moot point with all JBLs soon due to impending corporate restructuring that will likely eliminate spare parts for nearly all legacy systems (if one can believe the naysayers on this site).
