Here's a link to Lab Gruppen's latest amps with inbuilt Lake processor - 4 x 1300W @ 8ohm.

http://www.labgruppen.com/plm/

This is the latest trend with pro amps. I really wish that domestic manufacturer's would be more adventureous as I would love a "fanless" version of one of these. They are 4 channel so you can bi-amp and x-over all from a single box.

p.s. Rich...unfortunately, I don't think this will lead to a sudden reduction in the price of Lab's old second hand amps!!!

A quick look only found vague references, but it looks like this amp's got a network jack- not 100% sure from the site whether it's ethernet or something proprietary. Love it.

It uses a proprietary Dante system - low-latency transfer over Ethernet.

I was at a venue yesterday that had just installed a lovely rack of these (L-ACOUSTICS AL8 amps made by Camco).

The L-ACOUSTICS amps are nice but all the other manufacturer quietly shakes in their boots when Lab Gruppen release new products. Their touring reputation seems to be indestructible (and all this from a Swiss company)

p.s. Take a cold shower Rich you perve :)

Thank you for clearing.
Cool amps from the north - but on top of the hill. ;)

Fanless? You didn't take the fan off your car did you? Lucky for me my Tinnitus prevents me from hearing most fans. If they made more 3U cases we could use quieter 120mm fans.:)

I'm looking at an install likely to use the LA4's. Pretty compelling engineering, but we'll drive it all with a Dolby Lake, so may not need all that processing imbedded in the amp.

Their touring reputation seems to be indestructible (and all this from a Swiss company)As I understand it, Camco vs Lab Gruppen was a geographic marketing decision - L-Acoustics chose Camco to fit with their North American push.

Bo, In the UK/Ireland, I heard that the reason L-ACOUSTICS moved away from Lab Gruppen was their customers were not buying L-ACOUSTICS rebadged version of the Lab amps. They could buy the original Lab amps cheaper as there are more suppliers and more price pressure.

I assume that they moved to Camco because the LA4 and LA8's are a unique design only to L-ACOUSTICS. Lab must not have wanted to play that game and probably told them they could either have a rebadged version of their new PLM series or nothing.

L-ACOUSTICS probably aren't as big a force (financially speaking) in the world of PA systems as their image may suggest. Their turnover is very small compared to the likes of EV, etc. The whole UK and Ireland market is serviced by one guy (on the ground) with technical help from France - I don't think he gets much sleep.

Not sure I would use the LA4 if I wasn't going to use the processing at all. I'd stick with Lab :)

You get what you pay for. Modern PA amplification has progressed to the stage where a rack of amps (with inbuilt processors) about the size of a two drawer filing cabinet can run the FOH for a 2,000-3,000 capacity room.

The touring guys will eat these things up as well. Modern PA design is so exciting at the moment.
