I was reading about SACD and its lack of success and enjoying my CCR box set of 20 bit/K2 super encoded disks when a bit of homework seemed to be a thing to do, so this link came up ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_Resolution_Compact_Disc
and seemed interesting..

been around since 1995 and red book compatible.:bouncy:

hdcd was also around and its MIA now ( company bought by microsoft).

Yes, I have a couple dozen HDCDs and it sounds quite nice, and is compatible in normal players if you don't have the Brown & Burr chip to decode the extra info.

But HDCD went away ...
yet another reason to pitch a bitch at Microsoft.

not only the Burr Brown dac can decode the extra info, but a seperate digital filter IC called PMD100 . Im building around that IC right now. Its a nice IC for the purpose, though the format is dead.
