Has anyone tried one of these?

I am interested in getting something to perform the RTA function and this seems fairly neat and complete.
Any critiques/recommendations welcome.

I am not aware of anyone using it... several members use their woofer tester though and those are quite favorably reviewed.

I guess you'll have to be the guinea pig. :applaud:

Being Poe, I was looking at this........sounded too good to be trusted at that price though. 1/24 octave for $99.00? Plus a good mike?

Measurement mic is $50. They're pressure mics, i.e., different.

You'll need a phantom power mic preamp. Not sure how much those are.

And a compatible sound card.

It's in the FAQ there, as I recall.

So, for RTA, that's why I routinely suggest Behringer DEQ2496, $300 with mic locally, and you get cool stuff like digital EQ to play with, too.

Testing drivers electrically, Woofer Tester from Parts Express, under $100 last time I looked....

TrueRTA is alright. I have the Woofertester1 but it died. The woofertester2 was an improvement but cost more. The Woofertester3 is cheaper but I think they dropped some capability and features. If you looking to get basic TS parameters easily for box building it should do the job. Serious builders go for leap or clio with better performance. But those are big dollar investments hardly justified by the casual user.

Zilch of course is not the casual user, he is the addicted user. There is a difference!

The original was okay, but slow.

WT2 is nice and faster.

WT3 which a friend of mine bought is speedy quick, but like the last post is lacking some options/features that were offered in WT2.

I'll keep my WT2 and be happy!

I have the WT2 hardware and have been using the new software which
has many additional options and features (including "speedier" modes for
certain types of measurements).

Note that this thread has veered off from the original question about a different product.

WT3 does not let you test with ported cab, WT2 does. There are a few other little things, but that is the big one for me!

Note that the WT3 from Partsexpress is not from the same company that makes the Woofer Tester (1 or 2). PE used the WT name, but it's different - this was explained on another board someplace but I can't find it.

I use the WT2 to test woofers after refoaming them, and just seeing what the box tuning is for the speakers I have. I've also tested mids and tweeters just to see if the impedance curve is within reason.

The woofertester2 is actually better than the three and recent ebay priced for used WT2 reflect that. The WT2's availability is for who knows how long, I would recommend getting one while you can.

I have the WT1 and while slow and dos based it was very handy for testing. Unfortunately it died recently and cannot be repaired. The WT1 units were delicate and had trouble with the program chips. I've talked to the creator by email abut them and he said a common problem with a NLA chip is to blame. For that reason I would not recommend buying a used WT1.
