In the library this am and flipping thru some old issues of Audio and for some reason I remembered reading an article on how to set up/equip a disco in your basement "rec room", had to to be from the 1970s. Wish I could find the issue/article since it would be fun to read again and I'm sure some big JBL and Altec were on the list of recommended speakers. Any members remember this Audio article, or had a "disco" in the basement rec room and what speakers/amps/turntables/mixers did you use.

what speakers/amps/turntables/mixers did you use.

i have a "disco" in the basement....

speakers were:

ALtec 825s (TAD 1601As) stacked with 816s (515Bs)
topped with either 802Gs with a 511B or 2440 with 2397s
JBL 075s and CV SL-36Bs for rounding out the two ends
(they are in storage now as i try to sell my townhouse,
hopefully the next abode has an RV garage ;) )

in the meantime my basement system is:

full range section...
ALtec 406As w/ passive radiators
Fraizer "hepner" horns w/ phenolic dias
(while i build some smiths for the 802s)
Altec 3000G

"subs" are AR3As bypassing the tweeters/mids
tweets are Fostex T945s

summer amps are:
crown D75s, DC300, Crest 2501, QSC MX3000a

or in winter:
Dynakit ST-70
and some motorola console tube amps

turntables are modified Technics 1200s
mixer is a vintage UREI 1620 or an Audioarts 5200A
crossover is either a RLA X2000 or Sound Environments EQR-5

processing:
RG Dynamics PRO-20 series II
Acoustilog IE100

it would be neat to read the article if you happen to find it...
