While I sort of understood the intended meaning from the context, the usage of the word queer was at best arcane, that said snooty isn't right either-though does lack any pejorative overtones.

boob tube - possibly coined from the Harlan Ellison story/essay entitled "The Glass Teat" describing how television was affecting/influencing/pacifying a whole new generation being raised on passively watching/absorbing or being fed instead of actively reading or participating with the brain. Boob tube (CRT tube) then takes on this particular meaning.
