Hi Folks ,

I have just stripped the 4333a cabs. I would like to get some opinions on the next step. Do I go with the original Utility Grey or walnut veneer ?. I am keeping everything original internally. Regaussed the Alnico and just upgrade the stock xovers rather than new cc networks.

Just how many minty utility versions are out there I wonder ?

Thanks ,Rich

Tom Loizeaux was a big fan of the restored utility cab look ... the picture below is from his collection ...

Otherwise - do veeners!! But why go for Walnut - do something different ...
I hear a pale Birch is all the rage among a certain crowd ...

You guys are so funny...but please, keep your day jobs.

Why are you ragging on me, anyways?

I have not and will not harass any other member about the veneer that they have on their speakers.

Get a life, please.

;)

Geez guy - it was said playfully - no anger or mean spirit meant or implied ...

You need to calm down & stop taking things so personally ...

Life is good - enjoy it to the max!

Wow - is this what you think passes for harassment these days??
Good thing you weren't at any of the Marches on Washington!

If you have nothing nice to say, don't say it at all.

Why one would have to poke fun at that is beyond words. Are you guys bored or something?

You both have been here long enough to know that the joke is old...

;)

Storm,

Chill Mate,

You own one of the finest Sepeakers JBL ever built. But, the 4345 is the best !!!!

Besides , Black painted teak sounds kinda cool. I may even give my 2245's a splash just to freshen up the low end. Hell I could veneer the bloody dust caps while I'm at it .:D

your amongst friends storm .

Yes, the black painted Teak is very, very nice. I bet if JBL tried it - more would have been sold over the black lacquer version.

Trust me, the paint was done by a professional. And, besides being original, what paint or veneer change really changes the sound?

Hold on, I better not start that one...just like the infamous cable debate.

;)

I know it is all in good fun, but jeez -- that joke is so outdated.

Storm, you are obviously having a slow day - what a shame.

I was having a perfectly fine conversation with Rich about speakers and made a comment that only slightly touched your world, (not even your name) and suddenly its a Storm Session.

You now deny the fact that for the longest time you were the pale wood advocate - I even agreed with you on a number of cases - I like light colored wood as well. The comment about birch was a freaking FAVORABLE reference, ya wild man - but you are mad at me again - for no real reason..

The world changes, peoples opinion changes, thats pretty normal in life - accept that your tastes changed and move on.

Get over yourself, brother, go have a life, stop being so POed at the world ... and stop trying to be such a control freak - sheesh!

I'm thinking resale. I got a great deal on these by european stanards. I will spend atleast twice what I paid on the refurb. I dont like to do it ,but atleast I put them back into the world in much better shape than I got them in .
And, I wont be charging for my time just parts.I would love to keep them, but
sometimes even an artist has to live in the real world, $$$$$$$: Heather has a point, a more contemporary look in a light veneer. After all, they cant be original , but they will sound bloody awsome.

I guess I'm asking for a blessing from the purist's to change the appearance.

Why do you need someones blessing? If you like them in gray paint, go for it. If you like them in walnut veneer, go for it. If you like them in rosewood or zebrawood veneers, again, just go for it.

Life is too short to give a crap about what anyone else thinks, isn't it?

I enjoy doing I like like, not what anyone else thinks. Their opinions are not worthwhile.

BRAVO!!!
They're just speakers, for gosh sakes - if you're gonna live with them, if they're gonna be right in front of you that much (while you play music) you should at least enjoy how they look!

thanks Heather ,

I make aesthetic decisions everyday and could'nt give a toss what people think.

one can show too much reverence sometimes...... Birch or maple with powder blue baffles, light grey grills.

DONE . Pic's to follow soon.

Hey Rich, hope you aren't getting the spare bed all dusty (remember I am staying Sat night).

Unless you plan to pull the 4435's together to make a bed out of them for me ?!?!

p.s. I like the Santos Rosewood veneer.

Its funny that no dust settles in here anymore. I think it maybe be something to do

with the amount of air movement 2x2245 and 4x 2235 cause. As Heather would say " its Physics" or something along those lines. Anyway , I was thinking I would Place a 4345 either side of your pillow and see if we can make your eyes bulge .

Just put 4 new 88's in the proteus for your visit. Might even send you home with the 3bst.... Surplus ;)

YOUR A LUCKY MAN

Rich

Rich, I am indeed a lucky man. That is Isabella, my first grandchild. My wife and I babysit her one day a week, and she is delightful.

I saw her today at the brewpub downtown. The restaurant manager came carrying her over to the table where John and I were eating. I reached out to take her, and she almost cried. Bummed me out that she only knows me at my house.

But at home, I get such special smiles. I guess it is OK for a 7 month old to not take to strangers. Just hate to be that stranger.
