I wonder why so many single driver guys putz around with screechy Fostexes instead of using LE-8s or 755s. Cost? Ignorance? Herd mentality?

The best sounding Fostex IMO was the FX-200 which looked VERY LE-8ish. No longer made, go figure.

Hello Tom,

I'm not a SIngle driver guy- but I know plenty of them from the Lowther Club in Melbourne. In Australia, the LE8 seems to be difficult to find. Also some of the other full range drivers have higher sensitivities which is preferred by the SET/Low power crowd. To me the LE8 would be better although not as high in efficency, but better LF extension and that JBL punch. As an aside- I gave one of my single driver (Lowther addicted) friends a listen to an unbaffled LE5-2 with 200Hz high pass- he liked it. Maybe an extended 2 way experiment one day.

For anyone who knows- I would be interested to know if the Dual COne (whizzer) equipped LE8 are genuine JBL. I have never seen any of these in JBL spec sheets, but I have seen some on eBay.

Best
JA

Hello zzzz Kendall,

Congrats on your project- it shows a nice addiction to construction quality. Can you tell us the cabinet wall thickness?

yes !

This is very good driver

but just how to make the good enclosure and
the low frequency down to 39Hz at (1 watt at 1 meter 92dB SPL)
and (10 watt at 1 meter 102dB SPL) linear scale

my new front panel is 1 3/4 inch rosewood
the bass is better then ply wood

because Le8 the Qes is 0.44 need good material

Thanks for the info boputman. Hmmm- more things to buy.

Also zzzzKendall- I love the thick baffle solid timber baffle. Will you use concealed fixing from the back of the enclosure?

...this year will made 18 pairs...Really? 18...?

Where do you get the drivers?

I have a question on this picture:

http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r275/zzzzjbl_1/LE8T/_640_rosewood_8t_5.jpg

1) Who did the recone on the LE8T? It is not the most tidy of workmanship...

2) What are you using the Shure SM-58 for (or even worse, a PG58 (http://www.shure.com/ProAudio/Products/WiredMicrophones/us_pro_PG58-XLR_content)...?) - as a reference/measurement mic? I hope not...
