Morning All,
First question to star this thread off. Is there any substitutions for the 2307 horn/throat used in the 4345? If not, are there any substitutions for the 2420 Driver, and are all the bolt patterns interchangeable?

Thanx for the help.

2307 horns were used in quite a number of speakers
the 2 ways (L200s, 4320) and 4 ways (4340/41, 4343, 4345 among others).
There is also a somewhat longer version of the horn, the 2312, that was used in the L300 speakers because it helped smooth the transition between the 15' woofer and the 2420 compression driver. (helped the CD play lower than the short horn).

The 434x systems were 4 ways and had the benefit of the 10" midBass driver (2121 or 2122) so the 15" and the horn/driver didn't have to crossover directly.

Shouldn't be hard to find the correct 2307 horns ... unless there is some other design constraint?

We've covered this before but...

I'm currently doing three different versions:
2307 with 2420/2421/2425
2307 with a TAD c.d.
custom 1.5" exponential worked up by subwoof using the 435Be (or 2430/2431/2435).

2307's are available brand new from JBL.

2308's are on backorder.

yep - the 2308/2307/2420 is the LE-85 system.

The 2308 is the accoustic lens - looks like venetian blinds

2420/21 - I believe are pretty much the same driver - difference is the diaphram is either titanium (for Pro use) or Aluminium.

And the recommended updates include Aquaplasing the diaphram to make it a bit smoother (see Giskard for that)

Of course that all depends on your goal or design constraints

Thank you Giskard. I've been all over the site focused on the construction and specific components used in the builds. I've just been looking at the two most popular threads. I have not yet done any cross referencing, figured it might be qwicker to ask because of current projects at hand.

Yeah, the fractured threads can be a problem. It's long been suggested that we clean alot of this stuff up. It's a ton of work though.

Other horns can be shoe-horned into the cabinet, but there are spacing limitations imposed by the position of the midbass doghouse. Subwoof did some masterful mods on a thread years ago - search for it, using Advanced Search under his name, and something about horns.

The bolt patterns are not the same.

These two reasons are why I jumped at using the TAD TD-2002 in-place of the 2421B - the TAD slips right onto the 2307 and improved the character of it's contribution to the whole. This is not an inexpensive solution, but it's damned nice to have a Be diaphragm there...

Thank you for the qwik help this morning. I have to head out for a 2 channel room hook-up. Mac, Altec, and JBL fun!!! :applaud: Be back later.

Sounds interesting - can you give us a rough idea of what a pair of the TD-2002 drivers go for?

EDIT: Dang - forget that - looks like they go for about $1200 ea ...

Here's subwoof's NEW 1.5 inch horn for 4345/4343 thread. However, the all-important pics have evaporated. I expect Mike did not upload them, and their Links were severed over the years.

Maybe he will find us here, and re-pair the losses (repost them to the original thread)? Please...?

Links to the Pix were added a few minutes ago.

I can't add any more variations until I get my horns back from giskard ( hint hint )

BTW, the 2313 ( my number for the 1.5" ) WILL bolt into the 4341, 4343 and 4345 with either the 2435 ( 3" coil ) series OR the 2450SL ( 4" coil ) drivers...:o)

I see from the drawings the thickness is only listed on the front, and rear panel, front being 3/4", and the rear being 1".
I assume top, bottom, and sides are also 1" ?

Well hopefully Heather will get all this stuff cleaned up.

Like Mr. Widget said, she did a fantastic job with the other thread.
