Don't let this happen to you!

I was reaching around the back of one of my 4345s tonight for a cable with the enclosure partly swivelled for access on its support stand.

Then it suddenly moved.

The sheer mass of the cabinet twisted my back at an awkward angle. So I had to kind of untwist against the wall with a significant amount of force to regain balance.

Nasty.

I will be okay and plan to see the physio.

Its a reminder to be carefull when moving / around these large monitors.

Ya, that's why mine are not up on bases yet. I have not worked out a way to have them solidly placed and yet moveable for all the necessary fooling around.

I trust you'll be all right.

Not as bad as I thought this morning thanks Dave.

Perhaps if Mat can share some of his lawn clippings it might ease the discomfort.

That's one of the reason's I have my 4344's on short wheeled stands. So I can move them about without hurting myself. Those 4345's Yikes!!!! Hope your OK Ian.

Get better Ian.

(As Roddyama marks down one reason not to put all his speakers in the same box.)

Hey Rodd.

Nice to hear from you,

Yes I am considering my options. Its a lower back thing. Some exercises seem to help

Have not seen you over here for a while.
What happened? Did you get Fired as Moderator on diyaudio?

Maybe some Foster's will help?

I tried inversion boots for may back injury -- they seem to be quite helpful.
Hope you get beetter soon..

I think it makes it worse.

Will have x rays this week, hope it won't mean going under the knife.

If they tell you that you have to go under the blade, get a second opinion,... maybe post a thread on the AA forum, they know it all there.

Actually, I haven't posted much more than dozen times in the past year anywhere. Been busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest at work. But no, they haven't canned me yet.

I'll find out this morning what's wrong:hmm: .

Could not walk without shooting pain down my right leg. A pinched S nerve and apparently its path of the course. Could be a torn muscle or the cartlidge has moved.

Be CAREFUL my friend ...
no one wants to hear they had to put you down because of a bad back ... We'd just as soon prefer you stick around a bit longer!

Thanks for the thought.

I am up beat about physio dealing with whatever has happened. It needs to be managed and I think this is where many back problems get worse. It a real PITA as has I have been ordered to rest for the rest of the week by the doctor but can't do much at home.

I bought a heap of new music the other day and some new DVD's so I will enjoy that.:)

No permanent damage thank God but the disk has a tear or rupture.

It will take about 6-8 weeks to heal with some therapy to help prevent a reocurrance.

Good to hear it will be fine when done. My back has been going down hill slowly for 10+ years. Mine has to get worse before anything else but exercise and loose weight is suggested

Feel better soon

Good to hear it's not permanent:applaud: , but is that "6-8" weeks, months, years,...?

Sorry it meant weeks so I will be taking it easy for a month or so.

The specialist did a lot of work (ultra sound, massage and electro therapy) to loosen up the back and its a lot more comfortable. I have to so back for several more treatments and start some exercises. The beer (xmas) gut also has to go so I will have to switch over to Scotch or G & T for a while.:o:

There is a lot to know and its a complex mechanism particularly when the back is in damage control mode after an event.

But as I said earlier its a reminder to to very careful when you are working on your gear.

Thankyou all for your responses.

Ian:)

Geez...you really did yourself over on this one but good to hear that you're ok. I'm sure the Scotch and Gin tonic will help ease the pain. :)

I lost about 11 kilos over the last few months hoping that being lighter would help ease the pain. I didn't see any improvement over that period but I've had injections in my back so I now I can't really guage if the loss of weight has helped in any way. On the up isde, I now look meaner and younger by all acounts :)

Hydro's a great help and spa is the best thing I looked forward to. I have a tear in my L5/S1 disc and it caused me no end in grief but I'm sure you'll have yours managed under great care.

Just make sure they don't push you too much in the beginning, especially hydro because that's what happened with me. They started up a program for me that ended up aggravting more.

I good piece of advise, when you start excercising and it starts hurting, lay off a bit and don't push too hard. I know they say "No pain, No gain" but that's crap and doesn't offer any merit to its case.

Get well soon.

Cheers
Pasadena :)

Thanks Michael,

I've decided to drag the L100's in front the 4345's so I am not tempted.

Well I feel better today than I have for the past few weeks.

The combination of several G & T's, Led Zepplin in concert (2 DVD set)followed by a good nights sleep and a walk to the beach for a short swim this morning seems to be working.:)
