I was showing off my L-100As with their new crossovers to a neighbor recently. He took me by surprise by asking if I would do the same thing for him. Sure I said, new crossovers are easy, bring 'em right over…

It turns out his L-100As are somewhat worse for the wear. One of the woofers was kicked in by a 4-year-old in mid temper tantrum. The cone was ripped open and the voice coil may be damaged. He slapped a lot of glue on the cone to hold it together - but it's a mess.

Where can I find someone who can recone a 123-A woofer? I did a google search and found these:

Joe Berky Sound Projects in Baltimore - http://www.soundproject.com. He was recommended by Madisound.

Wizard's Electronic Repair Center -http://www.jbl-speaker.com/enclosure.asp - in Junction City, Kansas

The guy in Baltimore is less than an hour's drive for me. I would rather drive there than ship to Kansas.

Has anyone had any experience with these or any other reconers?

...might want to research prices on Ebay-sourced used units vs. a recone.
At least you still -can- get a recone.

You're gonna be shocked at the cost of a recone.

You can get a pair of used drivers on eBay for sustantially less....

Here's a list of Authorized JBL Pro Service Centers in Maryland via the JBL Pro website, under customer service, then repair, then Authorized Service Center and choosing MD. off the map. Recommend to call them and check to see what their experience, costs, and availability are.

This company in New Jersey also comes highly recommended by some folks in JBL Pro that I've spoken to. They have an extensive inventory or parts and recone kits that would fit the 123-1 you are trying to get repaired.

Consolidated Audio Technology, Inc.
138 Cannonball Rd
Pompton Lakes 07442
(973) 831-7500
www.consolidatedaudio.com (http://consolidatedaudio.net/)
Transducers, Electronics, EON, LSR, & 6208, JRX, MPro & SoundFactor, JBL Dealer
Having said all that, you could also purchase a used 123A-1 driver as they seem to come up on the auction sites rather frequently and total costs could be much less than a full recone (IIRC, the recone kit is >$200, at least the 2212 or 2213 kits are).

Bart

Uhmmm, $272 for the 123A-1 (2212) recone kit, it says:

I was wrong. You can get TWO PAIR of used drivers on eBay for the cost of a single 123A-1 recone.

2213(H) is 123A-3, @ $186....

You might want to call SSI ,410 761-1072 in Baltimore. The owner is a senior member in this Forum and really knows JBL!
