I was looking at a pair of westrex electric 2084-c loaded with 12" drivers and the mulitcell horns for mid. I was not able to tell if it was the 288-C or the 2090-A. It was a dark room and the horns were about 10ft above me on top of the cabinets.

I have 2 questions.

Was Westrex electric london a branch of Western electric?
Did they use similar bass horn with vitavox (shearer horn)?
Did westrex used 12" vitavox drivers in their bass cabinet?
Does anyone of you have westrex electric photos documents of 12" bass drivers?

You can download pdf files with details of the cabinets:

Hi Richard

I see 4 questions .:D

(1) Westrex was the worldwide "Export" division of Western Electric.
(2) I imagine they did use the Shearer horn - wherever they could get away with it.
(3) Westrex would have had to comply with the post WW2 trade laws of the " British CommonWealth" . Britain was in a "huge" recession for a long time after that war. As a result, her trade laws and her commonwealth partners were very protective and designed to encourage the establishment of "Branch-Plants' for manufacturing. Straight imports from the US of A were met with prohibitively high tarriffs .
So, yes, its extremely likely that VitaVox did licensed work for Western Electric - & meant strictly for trade within the confines of the Bristish Commonwealth - New Zealand & Australia saw a lot of this stuff.
(4) Over here in North America - we wouldn't have seen those products. Here in Canada, Northern Electric ( NorTel , these days ) was privy to most of the Western Electric designs & patents - if they wanted to exploit them .

Ancient thread I know, but so is the amp! I thought Northern Electric was the Canadian equivalent, or subsidiary, to Western Electric. Perhaps a knowledgable few can chime in.
