I'm looking for a round grille foam that is flat on one side and convex on the other. This is to cover a 15" sub. Parts Express sells metal grilles that snap over the woofer, but I'd like to find something in foam.

I'm sure I could buy a piece of stock grille foam and cut a round piece from it. But, it would be flat. The convex shape adds a nice touch. Any Thoughts?

Put JBL Monitor Blue grille cloth on the PE metal frames. :)

Zilch,

Will those metal grilles interfere with the sound at all? If one were to do the math, I bet a significant percent (40% maybe) of the area is blocked by metal. Seems like that would have some affect.

They move a lot of air through them in their "intended" application. :p

I'd be more concerned about them diffracting and diffusing mids, actually.

I don't know where to begin calculating the velocity and pressure drop.

Think port sizes, maybe.

You'll hear 'em if it's a problem.... ;)

Send me some pictures of what you're trying to cover with some dimensions and I'll see what I can do.

I've drawn a set of plans to copy this cabinet design. The drivers are 2235H. I'm going to build two. I really like the look of the grille and would like something similar. My L100s have blue aftermarket foam. Also interested in opinions in the veneer. I'm thinking Rose wood with a high gloss finish might look very sharp. Problem is it won't match my JBL cabinets. Any thoughts.

Zilch, I bought a pair of 2225H drivers that have been re-coned as 2235H from a LHF member.

Oops! I intended to add this picture to my last post.

This is the look I'm going for in a grille.

SonofGun - anything you can help with? The driver is a 2235H.

If you compress a piece of foam to the back side of a piece of material with a hole in it, it should create a dome protruding through the hole.

Very difficult to solve such problems short of actually having access to the enclosure.

I can sell you some 1/4" foam which can be stretched over a metal grille.

Superbee - L100 Quadrex are $150/pair + $10 shipping.

It will probably be a couple of months before I begin construction. I'll let you know if I try your approach and need the foam. Thanks.
